Despite being a Fire Emblem game first and foremost, Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes is more of a capture-the-enemy’s-base game than anything. This means that aside from the usual Fire Emblem tactics, you’re going to need to adopt very particular strategies to your plans: Attacking, Seizing, Guarding, and Defending. In this guide, we’ll recommend some of the best units for Defending.
What do Defenders do in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes?
While the ultimate mission goal is usually to seize enemy bases, you mustn’t forget to defend the bases that you have captured to prevent the mission from failing. That’s the job of a Defender.
Defenders don’t need high attack or magic as long as they’re resilient enough to tank an entire platoon’s attack. Sure, it’s preferable if they did have the attack power to get rid of the offenders, but their primary task is to defend a blue base that is adjacent to a red base until help comes. Armored units or characters with a high base defense make the best defenders.

After chapter four, members of the Ashen Wolves will slowly be available for recruitment as well. All of them make decent Defenders. Jeralt can also fulfill this role once he’s on the team.
However, also take note that you are free to build any character into a Defender! Just make sure their HP and defense stats are built so they’re able to hang on. Plus, just because they’re Defenders, doesn’t mean they can’t fill in for other roles like Seizers.
