Fortnite is well-known for its cosmetics, and there's a whole lot of them that have come out over the years of the game's lifespan. Some of these have gotten lost in the shuffle over the years, which means they haven't really returned to the shop in quite some time. Well, we'll be taking a look at these in our Fortnite Rarest Pickaxes post! If you have ever wondered if you own a particularly unique harvesting tool, then we'll hopefully give you the information you are seeking.
The first season of Fortnite had a very small amount of cosmetics available to it which makes them all very rare. The Battle Royale aspect of Fortnite had not picked up into super popularity yet, which means there wasn't a lot of people in the game at the time who even had the option to purchase the Raider's Revenge pickaxe. The season itself didn't even work how it does now. Instead of purchasing the pass and leveling it up, you would just gain levels in the season and get the chance to purchase a particular cosmetic with V-Bucks. If you combine all of these things together, that makes the Raider's Revenge the rarest Pickaxe in the game that doesn't require competitive play.
Axe of Champions
If we're going to be technical about it, then the Axe of Champions from the FNCS is without a doubt the rarest Pickaxe in the game. Only one player can own it at a time, and you'll have to be the current Fortnite Championship Series champion to own it. Once the player who owns it loses their spot at the top, it will move on to the next champion.

Top 50 Rarest Pickaxes
Here's our list of the top 50 Rarest Pickaxes in the game based on the last time they were seen in the item shop. This is really just the best method to at least put some logic behind figuring out which pickaxe is the rarest. There's no official numbers released on purchases when it comes to cosmetics, so any list is just going to be compiled purely on speculation and anecdotal evidence. You will notice a theme with the majority of these, which is they are all rated fairly low. That's a good indicator to why you haven't seen them in the shop that often. Epic very likely only places cosmetics into the Item Shop often if they sell well. Items that don't sell well very rarely return to the shop!
Holiday harvesting tools have been excluded from the list, because they pretty much always return on their designated holiday.
