The Shield Breaker EMP and Cluster Clinger items in Fortnite

Two unpopular weapons have been vaulted in Fortnite’s Star Wars update

As part of the Fortnite x Star Wars crossover update dropping today, Epic has opted to vault two items from the current weapons pool, which had proven unpopular with players of the Battle Royale mode.

While players currently await the server downtime to end, popular Fortnite leaker HYPEX has shared that the Shield Breaker EMP and Cluster Clinger have been vaulted. The Shield Breaker EMP, capable of damaging shields and temporarily disabling electronic devices in its blast radius, had previously featured in Season 4 and the OG season in Chapter 4, as well as Chapter 5 Season 1.

Cluster Clingers have been particularly hated by the community due to their high damage potential and relatively low skill level to use. Once 'stuck' to an object or player, they'd detonate a number of explosions capable of dealing a combined 150 damage to a player. This, combined with the fact they'd be found in stacks and were a relatively common drop, made them an easy object to spam to quickly take out your opponent.

Combining the two items made it even more difficult to protect yourself and fight back against an enemy. In response to HYPE X's post on X (formerly known as Twitter), players have been showing their approval for the vaulting.

Other players have shared their disappointment that the duo has been vaulted, likely due to their ease of use for quickly taking care of an enemy in a pinch. But all in all, the majority of responses seem to see this as a good move for the game's meta.

Fortnite's Star Wars crossover event starts today, May 3, and will run until May 14 at 9 am ET. The event will also bring a whole new Star Wars pass that largely features cosmetics for the LEGO Fortnite game mode, new cosmetics, challenges, and the return of Darth Vader and his lightsaber to the Battle Royale mode.
