Unfortunately, there are a few things that can contribute to the game not downloading properly. Servers can be an issue with increased downloads and background apps, which we covered in our Forza Horizon 5 PC crashes fix article.

It says Downloading in the image above; it will say Pending or Error if something prevents it from installing properly.

If you are certain that background apps are not a problem, follow these instructions to try and get your game download off the ground!

  • Go to Start Menu > Settings > Apps > Microsoft Store/Xbox/Gaming Services
  • Click on the chosen app from the options above
  • Press Advanced Options
  • Try Repair
  • If repair does not work then try Reset

Go through all three apps listed above, as any one of them can be the problem. If after Resetting and Restarting your PC you find that you can download the game, then all is well!

If you're like us then this was not the ultimate fix you wanted, then something a little more in-depth is needed. Gaming Services can stop working, and because you cannot uninstall this through the apps page, you will need to go a little deeper into your system.

These instructions come from Microsoft themselves, so don't worry they're completely safe. The instructions read as follows from their troubleshooting website:

  • Reinstall the Gaming Services app on your Windows 10/11 device:

Select the Search icon on the taskbar, type powershell, right-click on Windows PowerShell, and then select Run as administrator.

In Windows PowerShell, type the following command and press Enter:get-appxpackage Microsoft.GamingServices | remove-AppxPackage -allusers

In the same window, type the following command and press Enter:start ms-windows-store://pdp/?productid=9MWPM2CQNLHN

Install the app on that page and select Yes when you receive the User Account Control (UAC) prompt.

Restart your device and try to install the game again.

Instead of typing the command, you can simply copy and paste it into Powershell to ensure that you have input the command correctly.

In our case, we had to do this twice, and after starting the computer back up the second time, some DIVX features were installed and refreshed. Hopefully, it will only take one attempt, but do not be disheartened if it does not work at first. Try again!
