The upcoming Gears of Wars prequel E-Day will show Marcus and Dom at their most vulnerable; a new Xbox Wire post goes into detail about how the game will portray the two iconic series leads in a more raw way than any of the previous games.
As you might've noticed in the trailer, we'll get to see younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dom Santiago appear together. At this point in their lives, they're more bonded by loss than the bromance we get to see much later on. Marcus was best friends with Dom's brother Carlos, who was killed in combat while the former was present. The loss of a best friend and a brother has been tough on both Marcus and Dom, so they're trying to navigate through this together.
''When the game opens, there’s supposed to be peace on Sera, and they’re trying to figure out life without this person they both loved”, says series Brand Director Nicole Fawcette. The loss of Carlos makes them vulnerable in different ways which we'll get to see in the game according to Fawcette, who calls it a modern rendition of these two iconic characters. “There’s a weight they carry between them, and that creates a really interesting tension as they navigate their own relationship.''
Marcus and Dom's bond was an important part of the first three Gears of War games and the fact that we're getting a proper origin story for both and their unbreakable bond will be exciting, to say the least. With the advent of the Locusts on Sera, they'll have to be fighting monsters for their survival while also mourning Carlos which can create a lot of complexities for them emotionally. Based on this, it sounds like E-Day will provide a raw and captivating story many fans of the series have been yearning for quite some time.
