Information about the second major update 1.2 coming to Genshin Impact.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

Genshin Impact has taken the world by storm, and with the release of the first major update 1.1, there's so much more to come in 1.2! With the second update coming six weeks after the first, miHoYo is getting ready to keep the content flowing, and the hype increases. Update 1.2 comes with a new region, and of course, new characters are entering the fray!

Recommended Videos

Everyone is eagerly waiting for 1.2, the next major update coming to Genshin Impact. For the most part, these are unofficial Genshin Impact 1.2 patch notes! We've compiled all of the known and leaked information from a variety of sources. As of right now, we're pretty confident that the majority of this is true, but somethings may change by the time the update is released.

A thank you to Zeniet, AE Entropy, holyballs, SoulScepter, also a big thank you to the Genshin Community and Honey Impact!

Genshin Impact 1.2 Release Date

The Genshin Impact version 1.2 update is scheduled for December 23rd. This is subject to change, but from miHoYo's own official post from the production team, they are trying to organize a consistent update schedule every 6 weeks. We hope you have no plans for Christmas, as landing two days before it is surely going to eat up all of your free time!

  • Version Update 1.2 - Scheduled for December 23, a new area, Dragonspine, will be open up, and related activities will follow.
  • Version Update 1.3 - Scheduled for February. No date, but every 6 weeks will be February 3rd, 2021. This update will kick off the Festival of the Lights set of quests.

MiHoYo has already started the Version 1.3 recruitment process for pioneer testing in China. We know the focus on 1.3 is Xiao and the Lantern Rite Festival, though there's been no indication of even a global 1.2 test server, yet testing for 1.3 has already begun. Surely for Xiao and a festival would not need two months of testing...

This is bringing along speculation that Inazuma might be coming with 1.3, as the datamined characters, which are included in this article, some are from Inazuma. Hopefully, we'll hear more information soon!

On December 11, on the official Genshin Impact YouTube channel, they are hosting a 1.2 Special Event, which they are going to be releasing more details about 1.2!

Genshin Impact 1.2 Maintenence

When Genshin Impact 1.2 goes live, maintenance will occur for roughly 5 hours. This begins on 2020-12-23 06:00:00 (GMT+8). As compensation for the downtime, everyone will be given 300 Primogems if they are above Adventure Rank 5 or higher. Even if the update takes less than 5 hours, you will still earn the 300 Primogems.

Compensation will be given within 5 hours after the update has been completed. Everyone who wants the 300 Priomogems must be logged in before 2020-12-26 11:00:00 (GMT+8).

Dragonspine 1.2 Trailer

Here is the first Dragonspine 1.2 Trailer for Genshin Impact!

Albedo and Ganyu are shown off in the trailer, displaying some combat and skills of the two new 5 Star users. We do know that Albedo is the first character in 1.2 Banner. And that there are no new 4 Star characters coming to 1.2.

Genshin Impact 1.2 Patch Notes

As you can now preload Genshin Impact v1.2 on PC, the patch notes have also been released, and here they are.

New Region - Dragonspine

A leaked picture of the new area called Dragonspine in Genshin Impact

A new region is coming to Genshin Impact 1.2, the area called Dragonspine. This area is a snowy abyss located to the south of the Dawn Winery and east of Sal Terrae. According to a leak of the area, they are 12 waypoints in this location, as well as one new Abyss Domain - will this be a new world boss, perhaps?

Furthermore, this region is not a nation like Mondstadt and Liyue, so it's doubtful they'll be a Statue of the Seven located here. As Dragonspine is part of the Mondstadt region, the Resonance Stone and Treasure Compass should still work in this new area.

MiHoYo has mentioned that every region is unique, and those specific events will take place in certain areas and not others. And these events will coincide with real-world events, as as the Windbloom Festival that took place in Mondstadt and the Lantern Rite Festival in Liyue. As Dragonspine releases a few days before Christmas, is it possible we might get a Christmas event in some shape or form?

According to well known Genshin Impact Tweeter Zeniet, despite the area looking quite small. That's only from the outside looking in, as there's a lot of underground passages to explore, so it's actually pretty large!

Albedo Footage

Albedo is the first 5 Star Character to appear in 1.2 Banner. If you want to see footage of him in combat and see how he plays. Watch the Showcase Demo down below.

Ganyu Footage

Ganyu is the second 5 Star Character to appear in 1.2 Banner in 2021. If you want to see footage of her in combat and see how she plays. Watch the Showcase Demo down below.

Subzero Climate

Credit: miHoYo

The region of Dragonspine will have a climate survival mechanic where players will have to lessen the effects of the Sheer Cold status effect. That when the new effect reaches its peak, it'll continuously zap your HP until your party is dead.

That being next to heat will diminish this new effect, but swimming in the water of Dragonspine will hasten the effect. Though the region of Dragonspine looks small, it's going to have layers of depth to it.

If you do not use a Pyro user in your team to light up braziers or bonfires while on the chilly mountain, a new item is confirmed to be available to craft to help you fight the Sheer Cold status effect when going up the mountain.

Thanks, Genshin Honey

To acquire the Diagram to create the Warming Bottle, you need to level up the Frostbearing Tree to level 4. To do this, you must offer the tree Crimson Agate, and when you reach level 4, the Warming Bottle Diagram will be unlocked.

  • Warming Bottle
    • In-game Description
      • Upon use, it emits heat for a short period over a small area, diminishing the effect of Sheer Cold. Warming Seelie has evolved in temperature to give the comfort of warmth to those who seek it. This convenient gadget was originally crafted by those who struggled to survive in the snowy mountains in imitation of such evolved Seelie.
    • Recipe

This Warming Bottle is the Pyro equivalent of the Wind Catcher from 1.1. Will this mean we'll get other elemental bottles in future updates?

A picture detailed the new warmth system mechanic coming in 1.2 for Genshin Impact
Thanks to SoulScepter for this information!

Frostbearing Tree

Credit: miHoYo

Update: More information about this event has been leaked, and it seems that The Frostbearing Tree acts as a sort of Dragonspine Statue of the Seven, where you give it offerings, and you get rewards for each level. You need to offer this tree Crimson Agate, found in Dragonspine, and the places where you locate it refreshes every Monday and Friday.

that include Acquaint Fate, Intertwined Fate, a wind glider, Weapon blueprints, and Gadget blueprints.

Level up the Frostbearing Tree to obtain rewards such as:

  • Acquaint Fate
  • Intertwined Fate
  • Weapon Diagrams - Frostbearer
  • Gadget Diagrams - Warming Bottle
  • Crown of Insight
  • New Glider - Wings of Concealing Snow

Hypostatic Symphony

Credit: miHoYo

Update: Jan. 15, 5.50am CT

For more information on this event go here: Genshin Impact | Hypostatic Symphony Event Guide

This Hypostatic Symphony is a time trial mini-event. You have a limited amount of time to fight kill a Level 60 Hypostasis elite boss. There are three types, Hydro, Electro, and Geo. We are not sure at this time if you have to fight them on after the other and the timer still goes. Or if you fight one at a time and the timer stops upon defeating it.

Hypostatic Symphony starts on January 16th until January 31st.

The gate to an unknown domain has opened, and within it await powerful unseen Hypostases.

Lost Riches Event

Credit: miHoYo

The Lost Riches is an upcoming mini-event coming to 1.2. This event seems like a treasure hunt involving the treasure hunting-Seelie. However, we do know that the event rewards lead to the unlocking of a pet companion - the mini-Seelie.

This event starts on January 8th until January 18th.

Ulman's Treasure-Seeking Seelie seems to be quite interested in the Traveler. Perhaps you can become its new treasure-hunting partner... Follow the clues in the Treasure Book to discover some hidden riches.

Treasure-Seeking Seelie

Thanks Genshin Honey

It seems odd to have another Treasure Seeking item, as we already have the Anemo/Geo compasses to lead us to treasure. However, from the item's description, it says that this Seelie is very sensitive to Iron Coins. The keyword here is Iron Coins. Are they going to be a new type of currency in Dragonspine? A new crafting material? Or something else entirely? Here is what the item description says

Pet Companion

A leaked screenshot of a potential new Mini-Seelie Pet/Companion coming to Genshin Impact Verson 1.2
Thanks Genshin Honey

There are three Seelie.

  • Mini Seelie - Curcuma
    • This Seelie is golden in color.
  • Mini Seelie - Rosa
    • This Seelie is pink in color.
  • Mini Seelie - Dayflower
    • This Seelie is blue in color.

Marvelous Merchandise

Credit: miHoYo

Another mini-event is coming to Genshin Impact Version 1.2 called Marvelous Merchandise, which starts on January 23rd to January 30th.

They say that a very striking character has appeared in Mondstadt. He claiums to have some "new deals" which he could share with some partners.

Ascension Bonus Rank

A leaked picture of the Ascension Rank Bonus you get from Ranking up the Ascension level in Genshin Impact.

This has been confirmed by miHoYo that an Ascension Reward system is coming to Genshin Impact. That Travelers will be rewarded with 1 Acquaint Fate each time they ascend a character at level 20, 50, or 70!

And for any previous characters that players have ascended, you can claim the Acquaint Fate rewards from the Ascension Materials Preview screen. So for each character you get to level 70, you can get 3 free Fates. It doesn't seem like much, but it's better than nothing.

Locations

Credit: miHoYo

The Entombed City is a new location on Dragonspine, but not much else is known about it. Though from the picture above, it seems that one of the 4 Weapons, the Snow-Tombed Starsilver, will be available to get for completing it. We are unsure whether this will be the weapon itself or a Diagram that you have to create yourself.

Below are two pictures of more locations in the Dragonspine region.

Monsters

Ruin Grader

The Ruin Grader is a new enemy from the Ruin Machina family, the Ruin Guards, and Ruin Hunters. The in-game description is this:

A giant alien war machine. They are said to be remnants from a lost ancient nation. Apparently, the creators opted to forgo the low-performing humanoid-design in pursuit of improved combat effectiveness. They are extremely dangerous in both melee and ranged combat. Considering these mere relics possess such extraordinary power, one cannot help but wonder - what must the civilization that produced them have look like at its height?

Ice Shieldwall Mitachurl

A new Cryo-Mitachurl or otherwise known as an Ice Shieldwall Mitachurl, is a near mini-boss or boss in Dragonspine.

Fatui Cryo Cicin Mage

In Genshin Impact 1.1, there is only one type of Cicin Mage, and that is the Electro type. Well, they are adding in another member of the family, the Cryo Cicin Mage. Does this mean when we get the Inazuma region, we'll get a Fatuo Electro Cicin Mage?

Frostarm Lawachurl

A new type of Lawachurl is coming to Dragonspine!

Other enemies included are:

  • Cryo Samachurl
  • Ice Shield Hilichurl Guard

  • Floor 9
    • Characters on the field will continuously accumulate Sheer Cold and will continually lose HP after Sheer Cold reaches its limit. There will also be a Ruin Brazier on the field. While the Ruin Brazier is activated, getting close to it will reduce Sheer Cold. Enemies will attack the Ruin Brazier on the field to stop it. After having stopped for a period of time, the Ruin Brazier will restart automatically.
  • Floor 10

  • Optimizes Co-Op Mode:
    • The host can disband the Co-Op team.
    • In Co-Op Domains, guests and the host can both quit the Co-Op anytime without affecting other Travelers in the game.

Dragonspine 1.2 Leaked

The Chalk Prince and The Dragon Shop

Here we have an Event Field Trials with an event shop, very much like what is happening in Genshin Impact at this present moment with the Unreconciled Stars event. That also has an event shop by using Fading Stars Essence to buy various assortment of goods, including the Crown of Sagehood, the only item to allow users to upgrade talent arts to level 10.

A leaked screenshot of the Field Trial event shop coming to Genshin Impact 1.2

In the new event trial shop, it seems everything is purchased by red crystals known as Glimmering Tinctures, where you can buy an assortment of items, including the Crown of Sagehood. Is the Reconciled Stars event going to end then when Update 1.2 drops release this new event? Also, you get a free sword called Festering Fang when the 1.2 drops. Do you have to use this sword to claim the rewards or even start this event?

From the images, it seems that there are a few types of Glimmering Tinctures. There's a smaller version where you can buy weapon upgrade materials, Mora, and experience books. And then you have the larger version, which allows you to purchase Talent Level up materials and the Crown of Sagehood, but this time it costs 600 Large Glimmering Tinctures.

For completing a Field Trial event, you can get between 140-145 Small Glimmering Tinctures, and we have no doubt they'll be other Field Trial events that allow you to earn the larger variation.

Free Sucrose

Update: The source of this information was Zeniet, from when he live-streamed the 1.2 special event. He was translating on the fly, which was amazing, so just in case - take this information with a pinch of salt.

Very much like Fischl in Genshin Impact 1.1, in one of the upcoming events, potentially The Chalk Prince and the Dragon, Sucrose will be given out for free. When we find out more details, we'll update this.

New Monsters and Materials

A leaked picture of the new materials and monsters in the new area called Dragonspine in Genshin Impact
Thanks to Zeniet

With the new area called Dragonspine coming in Genshin Impact 1.2, of course, new monsters and materials are going to be inhabiting this area. From the image above, you can see some sort of Red Crystal, or this a new type of Ore, that can be used to upgrade certain weapons further?

A picture of the new Dragonspine Seelie from Genshin Impact

There is also a new red colored Seelie, which shows players the location of chests, etc. Does this mean there are new achievements for Dragonspine?

Geo Elemental

A new type of enemy is coming to the area of Dragonspine, the Geo Elemental. Not much is known about the creature, apart from it's a common enemy, and it uses the Geo element.

Dendro Abyss Mage

Now, this is one we weren't expecting. The Dendro element is coming to the game, but no enemies or characters use this element yet. Is this going to be the third enemy type that wields it? The first being the fearsome Dendro Slime, and the second being Dendro Samachurls!

There are already three types of Abyss Mage, Hydro, Cryo, and Pyro; it seems strange and cheeky, adding in the hidden Dendro element instead of, say, adding an Electro Abyss Mage. Sure there is the Fatui Electro Cicin Mage, but there's a cryo version coming too, and there is already a Cryo Abyss Mage.

If this is true, this is very exciting.

Purple Light Concert Challenge Event

A leaked screenshot of a new challenge event called Purple Light Concert potentially coming in the Genshin Impact 1.2 update

An image taken from a "bilibili" video hosting website in China shows a new challenge event showing off various modifiers you can turn on and off to increase the difficulty for more towards. These modifiers will be things like:

  • The length of time you have to clear the challenge
  • Reducing specific elements damage

New Challenges

A selection of pictures of the new challenges players can complete unlocking certain rewards such as Mora, Primogems, and materials. It seems that miHoYo has listened to players' feedback about wanting more Primogems as rewards as 90% of these challenge rewards offer Primogems! We won't upload all four screenshots, but we'll give you a link to where you can see them; thanks to AE Entropy for this information! Be warned there might be minor spoilers.

New boss

According to a well-known Genshin Impact Twitter user Zeniet, Dragonspine will feature 4 new bosses in this new area. What these bosses are, we're not sure, though we do have a picture of their whereabouts in the snowy mountains.

A leaked screenshot of the Dragonspine region coming in Genshin Impact 1.2 showing off the four new boss locations

From the image above, we can see three of the boss locations. On the left, it seems we have a Cryo boss, though it could be a Hydro, Cryo would fit the region better. On the left, we have a Pyro boss, but will it have any tricks up its sleeves? And finally, up above the Pyro, we have a boss that could be anything. Sadly, from this picture alone, it's hard to make out.

Not much is known about the new world boss coming with 1.2, but if rumors are true, we'll see our first Dendro element world boss in the game!

New Items

Stardust

A leaked screenshot of a potential new Stardust Talent upgrade material coming to Genshin Impact Verson 1.2
Thanks Genshin Honey

We know this as a type of currency you get when making Wishes, and it can be used to purchase goods from the Stardust shop. However, according to a leak, Stardust is going to also be an in-game item that, according to the in-game description, only says

Small talent points (Including the main character)

This doesn't tell us much; in fact, it may even be a rough translation, so we don't know what this item can do until we hear more about it.

Starglitter

Thanks Genshin honey

Very much like Stardust, Star Glitter is a higher rarity and is also received from making Wishes. You can also purchase rarer stuff from the Star Glitter shop, even characters sometimes. According to the same leak, Starglitter is also becoming an in-game item. Though the in-game description is just as vague as the one from Stardust

Large talent points (Including the main character)

We'll have to wait for more information, for more accuracy on what it actually is.

Potential Leaked characters

Update: The only two characters coming in Genshin Impact 1.2 is Albedo and Ganyu. No other characters are coming to 1.2. These characters leaked will be available later on down the lifespan of Genshin Impact.

These are leaked characters that have been datamined, as these characters may not even be released in Genshin Impact 1.2 and instead be kept for Update 1.3 or even later, as a few of these leaked characters mention Inazuma. However, take everything with a pinch of salt.

Hu Tao

Hu Tao is a 4 Star Pyro user who uses a Polearm. She's in charge of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor in Liyue.

Rosaria

Rosaria is a 4 Star Cryo user who uses Polearm as a weapon. She is a member of the Church of Favonius in Mondstadt. She is part of the story in Version 1.2, however, she will not be available as a 4 Star playable character.

We have some information about Rosaria's Constellations on our Rosaria Skills guide here, but not overly much.

Mimi is a Hydro Catalyst from Inazuma.

Yunjin is a Geo Polearm from Liyue like Zhongli.

Yaoyao is the first Dendro character we know for a fact is playable, she's a Catalyst from Liyue who I think studied with Xiangling or works at a rival restaurant or something. I cant remember exactly. She gets along really well with Qiqi.

Sayu is an Anemo Claymore from Inazuma.

Tohama is another Pyro Polearm, this one from Inazuma as well.

Then the last two are either: Shenli, a Cyro Claymore from Liyue and then Rosaria, a Cyro Polearm from Mondstatd, or their names are the other way around. I cant remember which one is which.

Remember to take everything in this article with a pinch of salt until official confirmation from miHoYo.
