The recent fiasco about Yae Miko's Elemental Skill stemmed from changes implemented when Version 2.6 went live, which changed her targeting mechanic to prioritize the nearest enemy. This was largely viewed as a nerf to her kit, as it completely invalidated her expensive C2 upgrade and didn't account for all battle scenarios, rendering the skill useless against enemies with shields.
In response to the community's anger over the incident, Genshin Impact took to its official channels to address the issue. In an apology letter, the game acknowledged that they didn't consider all combat scenarios during Yae Miko's targeting modification, which considerably impacted the player experience as a consequence.

To solve the issue in the short term, Genshin Impact will be implementing a rollback to Yae Miko's Elemental Skill targeting changes from the Version 2.6 update. The Sesshou Sakura will now randomly target enemies within range, mirroring the effect of her original kit. The issue will be fixed in an update on April 6, 2022, and all players Adventure Rank 5 above will be compensated with 100 Primogems, which can be claimed until April 9, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Genshin Impact team will continue finding ways to optimize the unclear targeting mechanic as a long-term goal. Players want more relevant fixes for Yae Miko, however, citing the need for invincibility frames while casting her Elemental Skill as an absolute must to make her gameplay feel much more user-friendly.
