Inspired by Genshin Impact, thousands of players donate to Project Hope charity

It only takes one big heart to inspire a thousand others.

While the Genshin Impact community can sometimes be at odds with each other, there have been moments where their hearts truly united for the greater good. Recently, the game's Chinese community was compelled to donate to a charity called Project Hope after being inspired by a teaser promoting the upcoming five-star character, Dehya.

The teaser touched on the massive wall that divides Sumeru's rainforest and desert. The wall serves as a division of not only beliefs, but also a significant disparity in the opportunities for people on either side. In the affluent rainforest lush with life, children can receive education and free healthcare, and live in a stable environment. On the other end of the spectrum, the desert is engulfed by constant sandstorms, with no structured education system and discord between tribes.

At the end of the teaser, Dehya brings a child to Sumeru City and donates all of her life savings to provide for desert orphans. She named the fund "The Wall of Hope" to symbolize how the wall was never built to keep desert folk away, but to protect those within.

Touched by Dehya's generous donation, Chinese players began encouraging each other to place donations to charity. The effort is geared toward a charity fittingly called Project Hope, which supports children who are unable to obtain modern education in China. Donators have reportedly been using Dehya's name to place donations, as well as the names of other characters from HoYoverse's games. The most popular donation amount is 648 yen, which is the price of Genshin Impact's most expensive Genesis Crystal pack.

Instead of buying packs, players have instead chosen to follow Dehya's footsteps by sending donations for the future of impoverished children. This wholesome moment has garnered global attention after a post on Reddit, and has touched the hearts of thousands. While Dehya's character kit has seen controversy, her heart has undoubtedly influenced the community in a way that Genshin Impact has never seen before.
