Which 5-star weapon to choose: Engulfing Lightning Vs. Everlasting Moonglow – Genshin Impact

Don't get spooked by the donut.

The Engulfing Lightning and Everlasting Moonglow are two five-star weapons that were released alongside Raiden Shogun and Sangonomiya Kokomi, respectively. They're both on rate-up in the current Epitome Invocation, which runs until March 29, 2022, which means that you can chart an Epitomized Path for either.

Despite a guarantee to get one of these weapons on your third five-star pull at most, Primogems are rare and hard to come by, so you might be in a pickle as to which of the two to aim for.

Stats

Engulfing Lightning

  • Base Attack: 46 to 608
  • Substat: Energy Recharge (12 to 55.1 percent)
  • Passive: Attack increased by 28/35/42/49/56 percent of Energy Recharge over the base 100 percent. You can gain a maximum bonus of 80/90/100/110/120 percent of Attack. Gain 30/35/40/45/50 percent Energy Recharge for 12 seconds after using an Elemental Burst.

Everlasting Moonglow

  • Base Attack: 46 to 608
  • Substat: HP (10.8 percent to 49.6 percent)
  • Passive: Healing Bonus increased by 10/12.5/15/17.5/20 percent, Normal Attack Damage is increased by 1/1.5/2/2.5/3 percent of the Max HP of the character equipping this weapon. For 12 seconds after using an Elemental Burst, Normal Attacks that hit opponents will restore 0.6 Energy. Energy can be restored this way once every 0.1 second.

Engulfing Lightning vs. Everlasting Moonglow

Objectively speaking, the Engulfing Lightning offers a much better value for Primogems and Intertwined Fates, given how it's a highly versatile weapon with a substat that many polearm users love: Energy Recharge. It's Raiden Shogun's best-in-slot weapon, but it's also fully functional for characters like Zhongli, Xiao, and Thoma.

While the Engulfing Lightning is naturally the Electro Archon's perfect pair, the Everlasting Moonglow—commonly dubbed as a donut—isn't the best choice for free-to-players and low spenders. While it functions well for a DPS-inclined Sangonomiya Kokomi, nobody else can fully benefit from the weapon's stats.

Moreover, the more affordable four-star Prototype Amber is a near-perfect replacement for the Everlasting Moonglow, so the five-star version isn't a must-have. A lot of Kokomi users also prefer other options like the Thrilling Tales of Dragon Slayers, which can directly buff their Main DPS characters, as opposed to forcing the healer to become a DPS.

Overall, there's no reason to pull for the Everlasting Moonglow unless you own Sangonomiya Kokomi and love how the weapon looks. Otherwise, chart an Epitomized Path for the Engulfing Lightning instead—you won't regret it, especially if you play Raiden Shogun.
