How are the controls in Grand Theft Auto: Vice City – Definitive Edition different to the original release?

No more pressing X for everything. We have triggers, baby!

The definitive edition of Vice City is in our hands after years of fan speculation and wishing! The excitement can hardly be contained here at Pro Game Guides, and the best thing is that the controls have been updated as well! No more PS2 era fumbling around!

If you have played Grand Theft Auto V, then you will be familiar with the new controls for the Vice City re-master. Rockstar Games have completely re-mapped the controller so that it matches what they implemented for GTA V, making it a whole lot easier to control Tommy and his actions.

You can find all of the controller mappings below:

These controls are the same no matter what console you are playing the game on, whether that be Xbox One or Series S/X, or PS4/PS5. So, the only difference is going to be whether you are pressing A, X, Y, B or cross, square, triangle, circle.

These controller upgrades along with the engine updates make driving and traveling around in the game so much easier and more fluid. There is no longer an outdated feel and things don't get out of control... as easily. Let's face it, it's still a manic game!

The old animations for attacking and such remain the same, which in our opinion is fantastic as you get a more modernized experience whilst keeping the quirky nature of the game which made it so great in the first place. 10/10 for experience!
