Is there lockpicking in Project Zomboid?

Can I pick locks?

If you are wondering if there is Lockpicking in Project Zomboid, the answer is no as of the current Build 41

Because of this, if you see a locked door, the only way to get around it is to either go through a window or break the door down. You can break a door by either dismantling it with a hammer and screwdriver or a weapon.

A Fireaxe is an excellent choice for destroying doors, but you can also use the illusive Sledgehammer to get the job done. The Sledgehammer's sole purpose is to destroy things that are in the way of other things. That said, to use the Sledgehammer, equip it as primary, and then right-click a wall, door, or anything that's blocking your way.

After right-clicking, there will be a Destroy option. Click it, and your character will start swinging away. In a few swings, the object in your path will be gone, and you can pass through.

How to add Lockpicking to Project Zomboid

  • Expanded Burglar Occupation
  • Mini-Games for opening windows and hotwiring cars
  • Ability to check for alarms
  • Lockpicking magazines
  • Alarm magazines
