In the previous section of the guide, we covered How to Find the Enchanted Lantern. From there, the story branches off into two different possible islands: Kraken's Fall or Old Faithful Isle. This part of the guide outlines how to follow the souls of the departed on Old Faithful Isle.

Before we begin, you will need the Enchanted Lantern to complete this portion of the guide. If you haven't, then you can find the link to that part of the guide below. If you were instructed to go to Kraken's Fall to investigate the fate of the lost pirate souls, then you can also find the link to that guide below. Finally, if you want to start looking for the Hidden Journals, you can once again use the correct link listed below.

Step One - Option One: How to Find the Chests and Keys
You'll find as you go through this investigation that these pirates' souls did not simply wander off to avoid their fate. Instead, they were ambushed just before their deaths, and it's up to you to follow along their final moments and find out what happened to them.
Without being too descriptive (to avoid spoilers), you will need to find Chests and Keys to finish this story. There are three souls to locate, and each one has its own Chest and Key. So in total, you'll be looking for six objects on the island.
You'll begin your investigation on the southern beach. Take your Enchanted Lantern and light it as you walk onto the beach. As you walk around, you will see short fragments of scenes like in the image above. As you follow the flow of events, you will see the results of this ambush and realize you need to follow the footsteps of the pirates and skeleton group that pursued them.
The previous part of this guide offered tips for you to follow to uncover the truth. Here they are again, in case you forgot them.
- Pay attention to the hands. The direction in which they are pointing is usually the direction you need to go.
- Pay attention to the feet. Follow the direction that the last few footsteps in that line are going.
- The phrase go with the flow comes to mind. You mostly need to use your intuition to determine where you need to go next.
- You usually have to perform an act to find the Keys. When you follow the path of the Keys, at the end, you'll usually find that some elaborate action took place to hide them. Sometimes you'll have to fire yourself out of a cannon or find a lever. Remember to go with the flow.
Some of these paths can be difficult to follow or understand. If you are struggling to find them (or you're just impatient and want to get the Tall Tale over with), you can continue reading into Step One - Option Two to see the exact locations of the Chests and Keys.
Step One - Option Two
Dinger - Chest
You will find Dinger's Chest on the beach in the Northwest corner of the island. You can follow the skeleton's footsteps there, or just use the map and image above.
Dinger - Key
Dinger's Key is thrown into a cannon and fired into the sea! To follow where it is fired, you will need to line the cannon up in the same direction and angle that the skeleton did. It should land you pretty close to the same spot. If you're a little bit off, you should still see the glint of the Key in the sand.
Eli - Chest
Eli died at the hands of the skeleton captain pursuing them. When he stumbled to the place that he died, the skeletons moved his body to the Chest. When you find the scene where this happened, you might notice the map near them. The X on the map marks the spot of the Chest. You can try to locate it from that map or simply use the map and the image above to find it.
Eli - Key
Eli's Key is thrown into the ocean after he was slain. You can follow the skeleton's footsteps to a rigged up wooden ledge and observe him throw the key. The image above shows the approximate location of the Key in the ocean. You can jump from the ledge it was thrown and easily spot the glint underwater.
Fontaine - Chest
Fontaine's Chest is hauled to the north side of the island. This path is relatively easy to follow, so you should have no trouble keeping track of it. The image above shows you the exact location.
Fontaine - Key
The Key for Fontaine's Chest is hidden in a cage trap with a skeleton. If you followed the footsteps, you would end up at a lever. Flip the lever near the cage, and it will cause it to descend, making the key within reach.

Step Three: Open the Chests and Return to the Ferryman
Once you have all three Chests and all three Keys, you can use the Keys to Open the Chests. When you see what their purpose was and reveal the lost souls' fate, you will be ready to return to the Ferryman and complete the Tall Tale!
Unfortunately, this means you have to die. AGAIN. Meeting the Ferryman is a more poetic way to describe someone's passing, no?
What's Next
That's the end of the guide for this Tall Tale! If you searched for the locations of the Chests and Keys yourself, you might have noticed that it took about as long as the other Tall Tales, but with far less battling and no riddles. Once you complete it, you'll receive the Fate of the Morningstar Commendation! From here, you have one of several choices. You can do the quest again, find the Hidden Journals, or move on to the next Tall Tale: The Revenge of the Morningstar!
