How to play the new Attrition game mode in Halo Infinite

How to play Halo Infinite's new Attrition game mode

Attrition is a new game mode introduced in Halo Infinite's Cyber Showdown Event. The event is set to last until January 31st, 2022, and will likely take the Attrition game mode with it when it goes. The Cyber Showdown Event features a free battle pass where players can unlock Cyber Showdown-themed cosmetics by playing Attrition matches.

What is the objective in Attrition?

In Attrition, two teams of four players will face off against each other in a slayer-style match where teams share their number of lives. Each team will start with eight shared lives, and then after that, each team member will have one singular life left. The eight shared lives are referred to as 'Respawns,' and when these respawns are depleted, players will need to be very careful to avoid losing their final life.

Any game mode with shared lives adds an aspect of difficulty not present in other Halo Infinite game modes as one weak link can cause a team to lose. Players still have a chance to win the match, even if their team runs out of Respawns before their opponents do.

What happens when players are out of lives?

When players' shared lives are depleted, each team member will have one remaining life. Once they are eliminated and lose their final life, players will become orbs of light containing their AI. Their living team members have the ability to revive the dead players at these orbs. It takes a few seconds to revive a fallen teammate, and it is surprisingly easy to turn a game around even if it gets to this point. Once players' Respawns are depleted, their main goal should be to stay together and revive each other upon elimination.
