Best Hunter Decks for Scholomance (August 2020) – Standard & Wild!

Hunter might be looked at as one of the prime aggressive classes, but it has also had quite a few different variations as well! To demonstrate that, we'll be looking at the best Hearthstone Hunter decks you can play with in the Scholomance Academy expansion. The class got some different tools to work with, so there's some interesting new options to now bring to the standard or wild ladder.

Hunter has a long history of being a powerful class. It was one of the first classes to be nerfed due to a very powerful deck called Deathrattle Hunter. It was fueled by the very strong Undertaker card, and dominated the meta until its power was reduced. Hunter also frequently had the powerful Midrange variant at its disposal which would generally play a minion that needed to be dealt every single turn up until turn six when Savannah Lion would take games over. Hunter would also famously be the poster class for extremely aggressive decks like Face Hunter. This archetype would also require some nerfs, but that doesn't stop it from popping up again and again as new cards come into the game!

Best Hunter Decks for Scholomance Standard

The best decks for Hunter right now are Highlander Hunter, Face Hunter, and Dragon Hunter! Highlander is the top choice for the class, but the other two are also very good options for the ladder. We shall find out soon if Hunter can maintain its strength in the Scholomance meta.

Theorycraft: Deathrattle Hunter

Blizzard appears to be resurrecting an all-time classic deck with the possibility of Deathrattle Hunter coming back into the meta. You've got Carrion Studies, which gets you a Deathrattle minion of your choice and will reduce its cost by 1 mana. Bloated Python is also a fun card, it's an early game Deathrattle, and when it is destroyed you get a 4/4 Hapless Handler that was apparently in the snake's stomach. You've also got Shan'do Wildclaw who can copy a Deathrattle card that you have on the board to get additional value out of it. Finally, there's Teacher's Pet which is a nice midrange card that has Taunt and will get you a random beast after it dies!

Theorycraft: Face Hunter

Face Hunter was already a quality deck prior to Scholomance, but it looks like aggressive decks to some additional power cards in the expansion. Voracious Reader in particular stands out as a card that will give you some additional cards after you dump your hand, which is a common issue with fast decks. The combination of Tour Guide and Manafeeder Panthara is an interesting on-curve maneuver that will get you an additional resource. Panthera being a Beast is also a nice little perk we can just about always use in a Hunter deck.

Prior to Expansion: Highlander Hunter

If you like the idea of playing Hunter but you don't like being so aggressive then this is the list for you. You've got a lot of power in this deck and it takes advantage of the powerful Dragon synergy that the class has access to. You've got some pretty powerful late game turns with Dinotamer Brann and Dragonqueen Alexstrasza to hopefully finish games for you.

Prior to Expansion: Face Hunter

As the class primarily known for targeting the face, it would be odd to not find a variation of Hunter that doesn't go all in on aggression! Most lists have started to cut Leper Gnome, and instead just run the Toxic Reinforcements sidequest that will summon three of the little guys if you can manage to get three hero powers off! The main weakness of this deck is going to be card draw, but it does have Scavenger's Ingenuity which can get you a powerful resource.

Prior to Expansion: Dragon Hunter

Dragon Hunter continues to evolve from a combo deck to really just an aggressive list. You'll notice you have a couple of different beasts in the deck. The important one to note is Stonetusk Boar. You want to grab that card with Scavenger's Ingenuity (recently nerfed) to give it a buff. This gives you a 1-cost 3/3 boar that can go right at the face. You can combine that with one or two Kill Commands and even a hero power for a bunch of damage!

Off-Meta Hunter Decks

Prior to Expansion: Quest Hunter

If you're looking to play something a bit off the beaten path then Quest Hunter is a solid option. The deck seeks to get a bunch of minions onto the board to complete the quest, and then use the new Ramkahen Roar hero power to give +2 Attack to wide boards which should hopefully overrun your opponent!
