In Hogwarts Legacy, you can combine Protego and Stupefy to unleash a powerful counterattack spell. The special combination will not only give you a protective shield but also leave your enemies stunned in their tracks.
How to counter and stun with Protego and Stupefy in Hogwarts Legacy
One of the first spells unlocked in Hogwarts Legacy is Protego. However, the shield can also chain into Stupefy, which leaves enemies unable to attack for a brief period of time. For PlayStation players, press and hold the Triangle button while an enemy is about to attack to perform the Protego Stupefy counter. For Xbox and Steam Deck users, press and hold the Y button. Make sure that you don't lift your finger off the spell button until after the Stupefy counter is thrown out.
While the combination is technically taught at the beginning of the game, the tutorial can be a little confusing due to its wording. If you trigger the shield spell first on its own separately, it will not work. So instead of pressing Triangle or Y twice, just hold the button down once when casting Protego. Your character will automatically launch into the stun counter after the blue shield has gone up.
The Protego Stupefy counter is a Hogwarts Legacy spell you will want to master early on in the game, as it makes dueling with fellow students and villains much easier. Just look for the Triangle or Y icon visual prompt in any battle, and quickly hold the button down to execute the combination. The counter will also make your attacks more potent, as enemies will receive critical damage when stunned. The spell chain can even be used defensively by giving you room to breathe in dangerous situations.
