Honkai Star Rail Techniques – How do they work, explained

Learn how to take advantage of them!

Honkai: Star Rail features many systems and mechanics that all factor into play when fighting in turn-based combat. Some of these systems aren't even usable inside of combat; they must be used before a battle begins. Character Techniques are one of these systems, and we highly recommend that you take advantage of them. Here's the Honkai: Star Rail Technique system, explained.

Honkai: Star Rail Technique system, explained

Most techniques are unique moves that characters can perform outside of battle that give your party an advantage before launching you into it. The exception to this is the Physical Trailblazer's Technique, which is simply a party wide heal. They are considered an elemental attack, so try to make sure you may attention to enemy weaknesses when choosing what Techniques to use to initiate a battle.

How Technique Points work in Honkai Star Rail

At the beginning of the game, you'll start with a maximum of three Technique Points. Each time you use a Technique by pressing the indicated button on the bottom right corner of the screen, you'll lose one point. You can lose Technique points by pressing the button and not hitting an enemy! Be careful and make sure you can see a red target on your foe before hitting that button.

To regain Technique Points, you'll need to find and destroy these purple regen items scattered around the worlds. The containers will all look slightly different depending on what world you are exploring, but all of them will have some form of glowing purple energy around them to let you know that they restore your Technique Points.

Can you get more than three Technique Points in Honkai Star Rail?

You can. When you raise your Equilibrium Level during the First and Second Equilibrium Trials, you'll have your Maximum Technique Point cap raised by one. This will help to ensure you have enough points to face the tougher challenges ahead.
