Topaz & Numby make up a Fire Element five-star two-in-one unit that follows the Path of The Hunt. They have a rather complex kit revolving around dealing follow-up attacks and helping team members trigger more follow-up attacks as well.
If you're struggling to decide whether or not to spend or save in Topaz & Numby's limited banner in Honkai: Star Rail, here are some considerations to decide whether or not they're worth pulling for.
Topaz & Numby gameplay mechanics in Honkai Star Rail
While they're a combined unit, Topaz & Numby act independently in battle. You'll only be able to manually control Topaz, who can use her Skill and Ultimate to support Numby, who will automatically do a follow-up attack whenever it makes a turn. Numby has 80 SPD, which cannot be increased.
Topaz' Skill will add a Proof of Debt mark onto one target enemy. The mark will increase the DMG the enemy takes from follow-up attacks. If no enemy has a Proof of Debt mark at the start of an ally's turn, Topaz will apply it to a random target. The only way to change the target of the Proof of Debt mark is to use Topaz's Skill on another enemy.
Meanwhile, Topaz's Ultimate gives Numby a DMG and CRIT DMG boost, while also allowing Numby to Advance Forward by 50% whenever an enemy with the Proof of Debt mark is hit by an ally's Basic ATK, Skill, or Ultimate (last two turns).
The follow-up attack DMG increase against enemies with the Proof of Debt mark applies to the entire team. So Topaz & Numby make a great support unit for other follow-up attackers. Meanwhile, follow-up attackers also synergize well with Topaz & Numby, as stacking multiple follow-up attacks will help Numby take more turns.
Is it worth pulling for Topaz & Numby in Honkai Star Rail?
While Topaz & Numby have an interesting kit on paper, their usage is completely situational, and they aren't very efficient in battle when they aren't paired with a fellow follow-up attacker. Numby isn't sufficient as a sole DPS in the team, and the Proof of Debt mark isn't useful when the rest of the team doesn't do follow-up attacks.
Topaz & Numby synergize very well with Clara, as Clara's follow-up attacks deal AoE DMG (in contrast to Numby's single-target focus). So if you love playing Clara, then you may want to pull for the duo to further improve her useability in battle.
But if you're a new player or free-to-player and don't have existing characters who deal follow-up attacks, then I suggest skipping Topaz & Numby for now. I believe that they will grow in relevance as Honkai: Star Rail releases more units that can synergize with the IPC duo, but in the meantime, their use case is too limited. However, I would strongly consider pulling for them when they rerun, as there may be more diverse team synergy options for Topaz & Numby in the future.
