Nintendo have just surprised us all with a new Zelda game for the Nintendo Switch, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

While we are all waiting for the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild 2, it seems Nintendo has just dropped a payload on everyone's head with the sudden reveal of the latest warriors game set in the Zelda universe, Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

I can guarantee that no one was expecting the release of the next Hyrule Warriors game, and what's even more brilliant about it, is that it is completely tied to Breath of the Wild. Have you ever wanted to know what happened all those years before the events of the Switch title?

Release Date and Price

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity is only being released for the Nintendo Switch, and this unexpected title is dropping this year on November 20, 2020!

There are two versions available, a digital edition and a retail edition. You can pre-order it from Nintendo for $59.99. However, at the moment the retail links do not exist, so keep an eye out on the retailers you normally buy from.

Story

See Hyrule 100 years before the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild game and experience the events of the Great Calamity

Join the struggle that brought Hyrule to its knees. Learn more about Zelda, the four Champions, the King of Hyrule, and more through dramatic cutscenes as they try to save the kingdom from Calamity. Play the Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity game to see firsthand what happened 100 years ago.

Characters and Changes

The gameplay seems to be the same as Hyrule Warriors which is not a bad thing, as that game was stellar. You'll still be carving through the hordes of enemies found throughout Hyrule and yes that includes the deadly Lynels!

Play as multiple characters such as Link, Zelda and no doubt, the four champions. Not much information has been released about the characters, but I can guarantee that the special abilities and skills the Champions possess will be defined in the game.

Though Hyrule Warriors did have an array of characters at your disposal, at the moment, there is six. Are they going to add warriors from other worlds into the Breath of the Wild's land of Hyrule? I cannot wait to find out.

It seems that there is a new fusion element within the game, and also being able to equip different sets of weapons. So unlike Hyrule Warriors where you are stuck with set weapons, with Age of Calamity, it seems you can equip different weapons and shields.

You can equip this for battle (paired with a Pot Lid), or you can fuse it with other weapons for stat boosts.

Co-op

For those of you who love teaming up on your travels throughout Hyrule, don't worry as all you need to do is a pass a Joy-con to a friend. Take on Calamity Ganon as a team in local co-op multiplayer.

Pre-order bonus

If you pre-order the digital version of the game, it comes with a bonus. And of course, Breath of the Wild lovers will no doubt find this awesome as it's a ladle! A Lucky Ladle to be exact! Now you can bring the pain to all the enemies that have hurt you in style!
