Who is Mipha? – Zelda Lore

Take a trip through Link's friend zone.

The Zelda franchise has a history of featuring rich side characters, such as the Champions from Breath of the Wild. All four of them aided Link in his fight against Ganon, but Mipha might have had the tightest relationship with Link himself. In fact, Mipha's relationship with Link is often a big debate: was it strong friendship, or unrequited love?

Everything we know about Mipha in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Mipha is the champion that represents the Zora people in The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. This aquatic nation calls the Lanaryu Province their home, where they house Divine Beast Vah Ruta. The Zora notably had rough relations with Hylians before the calamity, but Mipha still managed to befriend Link.

Mipha admired Link's bravery, but she also found him to be a bit reckless. In her memory from Breath of the Wild, she states when the two were young, Mipha would always heal Link's wounds after he would injure himself. In the same memory, she vows she would always protect Link.

This caused many theorists to believe Mipha actually liked Link romantically. There's plenty of other evidence to this as well, found in both The Champion's Ballad DLC and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity.

When Link takes on Mipha's challenges in the DLC, Mipha reveals she has a diary she demands Link doesn't read (likely because she confesses her love for Link in the diary). There are also scenes from before the calamity where Mipha is asking Daruk to help her train, solely for the purpose of protecting Link.

After the Calamity, Mipha's ghost helps Link traverse through Divine Beast Vah Ruta and eventually defeat Waterblight Ganon. Once the Divine Beast is conquered, Mipha gives Link a rather useful ability: Mipha's Grace. If Link dies with this ability, he will be revived with four extra hearts.

It appears as though Mipha's younger brother, Sidon, will be a prominent character in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Sidon is next in line to be King of Zora's Domain, and he can be seen in one of the trailers wielding Mipha's signature Zora Trident.
