Folnur’s refuge
Once you’ve taken the Door Seal after the initial cutscene, pick up the Burner (a1), check out the ingredients list for the rapid growth potion (a2), grab the Labyrinth Fragment (a3), and add the fragment to the wall (a4) to start a ball-rolling mini-game. If you’re stuck on this one from a reset, click the paddles in the following order:
- Right, left, right, left, right, right
This opens the exit to Folnur’s Refuge, so head up the stairs (a4).
Take the Bowl (b1) and the Knife (b2) from the floor, and then take the Key on the floor by the track in the wheel close-up (b3) before heading back downstairs.
Place the bowl on the floor next to the pump (a5) and pull the handle to get a Bowl of Water. Pull back the curtain (a6) and use the key to open the gate behind it. Click the gate once more to begin a hidden objects mini-game. You can’t fail here, as everything you need is in the image. Once completed, take the Wheel.
Select the barrel where the note from Maaron arrived (a7) and use the bowl of water on the note in the close-up. Click the note again afterward to add the revealed instructions to your notebook (I’ve pictured it above). Go back upstairs, fix the wheel (b3), use the handle in the close-up to lower it onto the track, and then click the tunnel (b4) to move to the lava river.
Use the waterpipe (c1) to pour some water onto the lava, which also gets you a Handwheel. Use your knife on the rope (c2) to lower the catapult (c3), then take a look at the catapult and take the Stone Rune in the close-up.
Use the stone rune to open the chest (c4) and take a Cannonball from inside. Pull back the catapult, load the cannonball into it, and fire the catapult to make an exit hole in the wall (c5). Head through it to the dwarven square.
The dwarven square
Take the Lever that’s on the ground by the noticeboard (d1), and then head back to the lava river. Use the lever to change the track direction before going back to Falnur’s lab. Add the handwheel to the door (a8) and head through it to the underground corridors.
Pick up the Hammer (e1) and the Burning Torch (e2), and then use the torch on the oil (e3) to light up the room. Click the end of the right corridor to get a close-up of the door (e4) at the end, add the door seal, and then click the buttons in the order on the image above (that’s in your notebook). You can now click the door once more to move on to the halfling cellar.
Grab a Poppy Fruit from the wall on the left (f1), and then use the hammer on the damaged wall (f2) to start a measuring puzzle. If you need a hand with this one from a reset, use the following sequence:
- 5, S, 5, 9
- 5, S, 5, 9
- 9, S, 5, 9
- 5, S, 5, 9
- 5, S, 5, 9
- 9, S, 5, 9
- 5, S, 5, 9
- 5, S, 5, 9.
Afterward, you’ll receive Three Measures of Sand. Place the sand on the scales (f3) and they will balance, opening a secret compartment. Take the Hook from inside. Use the hammer on the pumpkin (f4) and take the Pyramid that’s inside. Move the box (f5) to the base of the pile of boxes (f6), which allows you to get a close-up of the hatch above (f7). Click it to open it and then go through to the halfling’s hut.
Meeting Maaron
Speak with Maaron, and he will give you a Symbol afterward. Click the chair he was sitting on (g1) for a close-up, click the pig’s head carving on the handrest, and take the Pliers from the secret compartment that opens up. Use your knife to get an Aloe Leaf from the plant on the windowsill (g2), and then head back to the square.
Use the symbol on the stone wall (d2), and then click the image it reveals to start a block placement puzzle. If you're stuck, I’ve included an image of the completed puzzle above. Note you need to build it from the bottom up as the pieces will drop down otherwise. Once complete, the door will open and you can move through to the undermountain dwarf empire.
Click the gates (h1) and use the hook on the rope in the close-up to secure it open. Now click the open gate once more to begin a missing objects minigame. Once complete, take the Palm. Place the palm in the stone fist on the right (h2), which will create a staircase above it, allowing you to move on through the door (h3) to the dwarf slums.
Use the burner on the ice (i1) and take the revealed Mirror. Return to the undermountain, click the statue (h4) for a close-up, and add the mirror to start a puzzle. You need to angle the mirrors until they bounce the light, as in the image I’ve pictured below.
Once they do, the secret compartment opens up and you can take the Magnetic Stone.
Meeting King Durban
Go back to the dwarf slums, add the magnetic stone to the chain (i2), drop it into the water in the same close-up, and then click the chain once more to drain the water from the room. This allows you to move on to the dwarven cemetery (i3).
Use the pliers to open the coffin (j1) and take the Skeleton Hand. Return to the underground corridors next and use the hand to open the book (e5), taking the Palm from inside. Take this to the undermountain and use it on the far stone fist (h5), giving you access to Durban’s tower.
After speaking with Durban (k1), collect the King’s Orders (k2) and take them to the square. Put the orders on the message board (d3), and then return to Durban and speak to him once more. After a cutscene, he’ll give you a Mace.
Put the mace in the wall socket (k3) and then use it as a lever. Stairs will appear, allowing you to head up (k4) to the Ice Mountain peak.
Take the Giant’s Tooth (l1) and the Mosaic Fragments in the same close-up. Use the hammer to break the ice (l2), use your knife to cut a piece of Root (l3), and then return to the dwarf cemetery. You can now add the fragments to the mausoleum door (j2) to start a jigsaw puzzle. This is straightforward, as you can already see the pattern you need to create in the background. Once complete, you can take the Color Chip.
The mountain peak
Return to the mountain peak, select the area where you broke the ice (l2), and add the chip to start a chip-moving puzzle. If you’re stuck on this one, I’ve included a solution below:
- 12, 16, 11, 13, 10
- 15, 13, 10, 16, 17
- 15, 16, 3, 11, 17
- 18, 16, 17, 5, 12
- 2, 13, 1, 14, 6
- 1, 4, 2, 17, 5
- 18, 4, 8, 3, 9
- 16, 5, 6, 4, 5
- 16, 4, 14, 8, 13, 9
Once complete, read the instructions and take the Black Book. Place the black book on the burning cup (l4), which extinguishes the flame, and then take the Cup of Blood.
Back in the underground corridors, give the cup of blood to the bat (e6) and click the end of the tunnel behind it to find and take the Cyclops’s Eye. Put the pyramid where the eye had been, and stairs will appear, giving you access to the dwarf temple.
Select the far end of the temple (m1) for a close-up, take the Palm you find there, and return to the undermountain. This allows you to use the palm on the left fist (h6) to gain access to the mines (h7).
Helping Tectonica
Click the work area (n1) for a close-up and then click the table and take the Lockpick. Click the oven door in the same close-up, use the hammer on the latch, and then open the oven and take some Charcoal. Click the hole in the center (n2) to move on to Tectonica’s grotto.
Click Tectonica (o1) for a cutscene, after which you can take the Rope With Hooks (o2) and the Glove Fragment (o3). Move back up to the mines and attach the rope to the raised platform (n3). Click it again to attach it to the wheel and break the platform, then head back down to the grotto and pick up the Blunt Axe that’s now on the floor.
Go to the dwarf slums and use the blunt axe on the sharpener (i4) to receive a Sharp Axe. Go to the temple and use the axe on the pulley (m2) to obtain a Wedge and then click the pulley again to also gain a Handwheel. In the same close-up, click the drawing on the wall to see some instructions.
Go to the undermountain. Click the wagon (h8), then again for a close-up of the box inside it, and use the lockpick to open it and take the Red Tree Bark Essence. Head back to Durban’s tower next, add the glove fragment to the plinth (k5), and take the Ring. Use the ring on the wooden panel (k2), which allows you to take a Sheet of Paper. This allows you to return to the temple, click the instructions on the wall (m2), and use the paper and charcoal to make a copy of the Scheme.
Return to the mines and hang the scheme up in the close-up next to the machine operating the wheel (n4). Use the axe in the same close-up, add the handwheel, then add the wedge and hammer it in. You can now click the device and stop the wheel. Speak to Tectonica (o1) once more and she’ll reward you with the Diamond Thread.
Making the potion and the hammer
Use the diamond thread to take the Crystal Mushroom (o3), and then return to Folnur’s lab. Place the aloe leaf, poppy fruit, root, red tree essence, and crystal mushroom in the pot (a2), click the pot to stir it, then click it again to pour some into the bottle on the table. Insert the stopper, and then take the Speed Growth Potion.
Move to the mountain peak and use the potion on the roots by the tower (l3) to make them build a bridge. Click the tower entrance (l5), take the Medallion and the Palette, and then head back to Durban’s tower. Insert the medallion into the case (k6) to retrieve the Hammer Fragment. In the same close-up, click the medallion until it shows a blue beam of light. This shines onto the central pillar, opening the throne below (k1), allowing you to take a Figurine.
Go to the halfling’s cellar next and use the palette on the painting (f8). Click it once more to draw the entrance onto the painting. You can now go back to the mountain peak and click the tower entrance (l5) to start a missing objects mini-game. Once complete you can take the Hammer Handle.
Return to the mines, select the skull (n), and add the giant’s tooth in the close-up, which opens the mouth. Add the figurine to the item inside to start a sliding puzzle. If this one flummoxes you, the solution is below.
- A right
- B down as far as it will go
- C left into the corner
- D and E up to the top
- F left
- G down to the bottom
A will now slide right out, the box will open, and you can take a second Cyclops’s Eye. Return to Tectonica’s grotto and add the two eyes to the statues (o4). Add the two hammer fragments to the table to make the hammer, then take the Hammer.
Saving Suzanne
Move to the lava river and use the hammer on the rocks (c7) to take the Metal Cutters. Use the metal cutters on the chainmail shirt (f9) in the halfling’s cellar to find a Bear Fang and return to the temple. Use the fang to trace the bear's outline on the alcove's wall (m1), taking the Key.
Now you need to head to the halfling hut. Use the key to open the loft hatch (g3), then click it for a close-up and use the piece of wood there to clear the blockage. You can now raise the periscope (g4), look through it, and see that Suzanne’s in trouble. Click the door (g5), enter the code you saw through the periscope (pictured above), and then head off to save her.
