Mechabellum is one of the most popular auto battlers but it comes with a steep learning curve. If you want to boost your MMR and get good, you’ll need more than just the basics covered in the tutorial. So, if you’re a beginner, here are the best tips and tricks to help you get better at Mechabellum.
8 Tips And Tricks For Mechabellum
Below you will find the best tips and tricks for Mechabellum which will help you improve your tactics as well as your MMR.
Adapt Your Strategy on the Fly
In Mechabellum, sticking to one strategy is a recipe for disaster. I’ve seen many players make this mistake, and it usually ends in a frustrating loss. Instead, you should look at your opponent’s units and adapt your tactics accordingly.
For example, if your opponent is building an army of Mustangs, you should switch your focus to getting armored troops like Arclights or Vulcans. Doing this will allow you to counter your opponent without losing multiple rounds. Don’t hesitate to sell units that won't be useful; keeping unnecessary units is a burden that will limit your supplies, so be ready to change your composition whenever needed.
Don’t Spam Troops
While you might think it's common sense to spam a powerful unit, doing so makes you vulnerable to counters, and reduces your unit's XP gain as well as the balance of your army. I suggest using two or at most three copies of your best units. Try prioritizing high-value units that can provide you value even in later rounds.
I generally prefer units like Scorpions or Fangs because they're great on their own in the early game, and become even better with upgrades in later rounds.
Choose Reinforcements Carefully
Reinforcements are optional perks and units which you can purchase at the end of each round. While you might be tempted to spend leftover supplies on reinforcements, it’s not worth doing every time. Only invest in perks if their rarity is yellow or higher.
Choosing a reinforcement can be quite situational, especially in later rounds of a match. For example, choosing the Super Supply Enhancement is a no-brainer in most cases, but if you're running an aggressive build around Crawlers and Archlights, then choosing Efficient Light Manufacturing will provide you a lot more value. Generally, if your reinforcements don’t buff your strategy, then you’re just wasting supplies.
Use Your Research Points
One of the most common mistakes I’ve seen beginners make is not using their research points. While you might think that every unit has a fixed set of upgrades, instead you can unlock additional upgrades and build them differently. This not only gives you an edge in matches but lets you create new and unique strategies.
For example, when you're using Crawlers, having the Impact Drill upgrade is a must for making them actually useful. This upgrade increases the attack stats of every Crawler by 125%, making them viable in combat; without it, other upgrades like Replicate and Subterranean Blitz don't work well.
Best Research Point Investments
Unit | Research Upgrade | Reason |
---|---|---|
Marksman | Assault Mode | Allows them to switch from a single target to an AoE unit, countering closely packed hordes of chaff units. |
Mustang | Aerial Specialization | Increases the range as well as aerial damage of Mustangs, making them significantly stronger and versatile. |
Sledgehammer | Armor Enhancement | Provides damage reduction and HP increase, making them more sustainable and viable in later rounds. |
Stormcaller | Electromagnetic Explosion | Unlocks a long-range AoE attack, great for countering lots of swarm units. |
Steel Balls | Armor Enhancement | Provides damage reduction and HP increase, making them more sustainable and viable in later rounds. |
Scorpion | Field Maintenance | Provides a constant recovery of 4.5% of max HP upon taking damage, greatly improving the unit's survivability and overall value. |
Phoenix | Charged Shot | Increases the unit's damage by 175%, making them extremely powerful in both early as well as late game. |
Arclight | Anti-Aircraft Ammunition | Arclights can now target both ground and aerial units, increasing their viability significantly. |
Fang | Armor-Piercing Bullets | Increases the Fang's attack by 50%, making them viable as a late game carry. |
Wasp | Aerial Specialization | Significantly increases damage and range aginst other aerial units, making them the best counter for almost every air unit. |
Upgrade Your Control Towers
As a beginner, more often than not, players completely overlook the Control Towers. Rather, upgrading them provides you with game-changing perks, like letting you sell your units. To get an early game advantage, try to unlock the first few perks for both towers quickly.
The tower on the right called the Command Center has the crucial Mass Recruitment upgrade that lets you purchase an additional unit every round. Similarly, the left tower, the Research Center has the Field Recovery upgrade through which you can start to sell units. Both of these upgrades are a must for every match; without Mass Recruitment, you'll be stuck with only two units every round while your opponent can have access to three, and without Field Recovery you won't be able to sell any units, even if you bought one by mistake.
Take Advantage Of Flanks
One of the best strategies I’ve learned is to take advantage of flanking after the first round. Most players focus their units in the center of the battlefield, but flanking allows you to target the protected units at the back, or bypass defenses.
I prefer deploying aerial or fast-moving units in the flank positions because there's a good chance that they will take out the enemy control towers, giving you a strong edge at the start of a round. This strategy is a game-changer when executed well and can catch your opponent off guard.
Don’t Upgrade Recklessly
Upgrading your units is a necessity in Mechabellum, but it’s not something to do thoughtlessly. Not every unit will be worth upgrading. Rather, you should focus on building units that will provide you long-term value, and get upgrades for the top damage dealers. Some of the best DPS units that are worth upgrading include Mustangs, Scorpions, Sledgehammers, and Fangs.
Choose The Right Specialist
While your victory heavily depends on your units and strategy, the specialist you choose also has a significant contribution. Some can provide great early-game benefits like the Elite Specialist while others like the Supply Specialist shine in the late game. I prefer a more aggressive strategy so the Rhino Specialist fits well with my playstyle. You should choose your specialist carefully and use a strategy that takes advantage of their perks.
