Sometimes the creative freedom that players are offered in Minecraft to design their own space can be so open that players may not have a great concept for how to create what they are imagining. This is especially true if the design is of something that may not necessarily function like it would in the real world. Kitchens are a great example of this, as there are no stovetops, refrigerators, cabinets, drawers, chairs, or tables in Minecraft. So, we'll have to use some imagination with these designs.
Typface's Modern Working Kitchen
Typface's Modern Working Kitchen design, available on YouTube, offers a lot of ideas that not only give the look of a kitchen, but also have some useability. For a modern look, this design is made mainly with quartz. However, quarts could be substituted for any general wood or stone building block. The only useable items within this build are the stove and cabinet, but this design also includes shelving and a sink that looks very accurate.
- Stovetop Design - The stovetop is very simple—just two smokers side by side with white carpet on top of them.
- Cabinet Design - This is a bit more involved, using a combination of downturned stairs atop barrels, with blank signs on the front of them. To give a proper drawer look, add item frames onto the front of the signs. Put down iron or wood trap doors and align them inside the item frame to look like a handle.
- Shelving Unit Design - Players can easily use a combination of stairs, blocks, and slabs to create a floating shelf design to fit the player's exact aesthetic.
- Stove Ventilation Design - Use a combination of iron bars and slabs to give the look of a stove vent floating above the kitchen island.
- Sink Design - Between two whole blocks of countertop, place a stair that is rightside up and facing the wall. Then, use a bucket to place water in the small gap created between the wall and the stair. For a faucet, simply add a tripwire hook to the wall above the sink.
Ukiyo's Modded Kitchen Design
One of the easier ways to make a kitchen look like a proper part of a player's home is with mods. Ukiyo created this kitchen design on Tumblr with Ghoulcraft, a modded furniture set. This set adds realistic chairs, cushion seats, beds, shelves, and so much more.

MiddaCraft's Medieval Kitchen
Depending on the theme of the player's Minecraft world, mods that add modern furniture just don't make sense. For an authentic take on a more rustic and/or medieval kitchen, players' needs are minimal. At most, a table, some chairs, a cauldron, barrels, and a fireplace could do the trick. u/FranzChicken created just that: a simple but satisfactory kitchen.
With these types of builds, adding the little details is key. Items like potted plants, books or bookshelves, lanterns dangling on chains, curved ceilings or chandeliers, and plated food can help this space feel real and lived in. Other things that can help build the ambiance of a medieval kitchen are texture packs and shaders that add to the general aesthetic.
