How to get Silk Touch in Minecraft

Silk Touch is one of the most desired enchantments in Minecraft. The enchantment allows you to pick the exact block of certain items using the respective tools. For example, if you want to pick coral, you need a pickaxe with Silk Touch enchantment. Otherwise, you will end up picking dead coral. To get Silk Touch in Minecraft, you will need to perform the Silk Touch enchantment on your desired tools or get a Silk Touch enchanting book from any village librarian.

Performing the Silk Touch enchantment in Minecraft

To perform Silk Touch, you will need to arrange for Level 30 enchantment. If you do not know the setup for a Level 30 enchantment, read our guide for setting up a Level 30 enchantment and continue with the following procedure.

• Make 5 to 20 wooden pickaxes or shovels and keep them in your inventory.
• Access the enchantment table with Lapis Lazuli and a single wooden shovel or pickaxe.
• If your enchantment table shows the Silk Touch enchantment, swap the wooden shovel or pickaxe with the item you want to have the Silk Touch. 

• If you do not get any Silk Touch enchantment, simply perform any available enchantment on the wooden item and replace it with a new wooden item.

• Repeat the process till you get a Silk Touch enchantment on the table.

Remember, you can only swap items of the same type. For example, you can swap a wooden pickaxe with any higher quality of pickaxe but not with a shovel or other game items.

Trading for Silk Touch enchanting book from the Village librarian

You can always trade for a Silk Touch enchanting book from a village librarian to get Silk Touch. If you do not know any librarian, you can always convert an unemployed villager into a village librarian. To do this, follow the steps given below.

• Find an unemployed villager and place fences around him to stop him from wandering.
• Keep a lectern inside the fence to turn him into a librarian.
• Now, wait for him to trade an Silk Touch enchantment book. Buy the enchantment book using emeralds.
• If your librarian does not trade the Silk Touch enchantment book, simply break his lectern and replace it with a new one. This procedure will allow him to trade new books instead of the old ones. Repeat the process till you find the required book.
• Take the enchantment book and place it inside any anvil along with the item on which you require the Silk Touch ability.

Apart from the above two methods, you can also get the Silk Touch enchanted books from loot boxes and fishing farms.
