What does Respiration do in Minecraft?

What does Respiration do in Minecraft?

Respiration in Minecraft is a special helmet enchantment that the player can use to breathe underwater for longer and extended periods of time. The enchantment extends the player's ability to breathe underwater by 15 seconds per the level of enchantment on the player's helmet.

The player can also gain a chance not to drown while wearing a turtle shell, and the enchantment in general grants a chance of not taking any damage from drowning. That said, how do you even get this enchantment in the game?

In short, you can get the enchantment from looting treasure chests inside dungeons, fishing with a fishing pole, during raids, and via trading. Starting with fishing, if you have a fishing pole enchanted with the luck of the sea enchantment, you will be able to farm treasure items such as enchantment books for Respiration by fishing.

You can also earn the Respiration enchantment as loot during raids and by trading with villagers when they have the books. To trade with villagers, all you need to do is have the required amount of emeralds and exchange them for the book. After trading, using a enchantment table along with Lapis Lazuli and books is the next best method for obtaining respiration. However, keep in mind you will need lots of experience to get enchantment books this way.
