If you are trying to make one of the many upgraded versions of Heartgem Runes, you will need to farm Sulfur at some point. Luckily Sulfur is not a hard resource to find as it is a part of the New World Brimstone Sands update. That said, players can locate and farm Sulfur by heading to the Brimstone Sands biome and farming a resource called Brimstone. Farming Brimstone will drop resources called Sulfur Chucks that players can turn into Sulfur.
However, before players can reach this new area in New World and farm, they must meet a few requirements. In short, players must complete both A Selfless Nature and a new quest called Strider of the Sands. The Selfless Nature quest can be completed when players turn level 35 in Edengrove. But to complete the Strider of the Sands quest, you must go to the following locations depending on faction and be at least level 60:
- Shattered Moutain: Syndicate.
- Ebonscale Reach: Marauder.
- Great Cleave: Covenant.
Once you gain access to the Brimstone Sands Biome, you can farm Brimstone for Sulfur chunks in the following locations in the Brimstone Sands region:

Best Sulfur Chunk Farms in New World
If you want to farm Suflur Chunks fast from Brimstone, we recommend checking around the following locations in the game: Shrine of War, Mercurial Shrine, and Wurmsign Obelisk. You can find all three areas in New World marked by the boxes in our image below. As a side note, you must have at least 130 levels in the Mining trade skill before you can mine Brimstone for Suflur chunks.
How to craft Sulfur in New World
Once you gather enough Sulfur chunks from farming the locations listed above, you can craft Suflur from the chunks at a Smelter inside one of the many towns in the game. However, before you can smelt Suflur, you need to be level 60 in Smelting and use a Tier three Smelter. Alongside these requirements, you will also need one Flux for every five Sulflur chunks to make Sulfur.
How to use Sulfur in New World
Players can use Sulfur to craft/upgrade Major Heartgem Runes into their legendary counterparts. Sulfur is also required to make Major Heartgem Runes from Minor ones. That said, if you want to upgrade Minor Heartgem Runes to Legendary, you will need to farm Sulfur and Minor Heartgem Runes. Luckily you can get Minor Heartgem Runes from farming expeditions or crafting them with expedition materials.
