Thinking of trying out a different design or layout with your base in Once Human? Have a different vision for the interior decoration? Then you probably want to know if you can quickly delete your base and reclaim all materials used in construction.

Can you delete your base in Once Human?

Well, I'm happy to report that the short answer is: yes, you can delete your base in Once Human. But it's not an entirely intuitive or even that quick of a process.

The player highlighting a wood foundation of a base in build mode in Once Human

The most straightforward way to delete your base in Once Human is to enter building mode by hitting the B key on the PC (which is the only platform it's available on besides mobile...for now). Then highlight the section of your base you want to delete and hit the R key to demolish the piece in question. Don't worry – you get the materials you used to build the structure back when demolishing it.

Instead of spamming the R key like crazy all over your base, I recommend focusing on deleting the foundation pieces of your house to dismantle the entire building quickly. These would be whatever base surface the house is being supported by – floorboards, stilts, or any similar structure.

You should also be careful when dealing with storage chests and water tanks while dismantling your base. You might want to highlight these items in build mode and use the F key to relocate them off the base which is about to be deleted and onto a nearby structure. I recommend building a 2x2 surface, or however large to accommodate your items, and moving them onto there before deleting your base itself.

If you do accidentally delete any important storage chests or water tanks – do not fret. The items in them will automatically go into safe storage in your Vault. Just be sure to regularly check your Vault capacity, as if it's full, the items might not make it in.

In terms of the best starting locations to build a base, I'd recommend building yours in either a) a forested area due to the importance of gathering wood; b) near mineral deposits as steel and other mineral ores are vital for base and gear building; c) by a body of water to make fishing and building up your water reserve easier.
