How to Auto Battle in One Piece Odyssey

One Piece Odyssey, being a turn-based RPG, includes a genre staple: the auto battle system. It can help prevent you from getting worn out by the grind and menus, but you may want to learn a bit more about it before it gets you into trouble, too. Here's how to use the Auto Battle system in One Piece Odyssey.

How to turn on and off Auto Battle in One Piece Odyssey

One Piece Odyssey's Auto Battle mode almost feels hidden. You can only access it during combat. To find it, start from your main combat screen. Enter your Tactics Menu, where you would typically swap between characters. Then select Switch Battle Mode, the first out of three options on the Tactics Menu. You'll then be taken through a quick tutorial on how it works. The tutorial won't tell you that Auto Battle mode will stay on between fights, even if you approach a boss, or a Dramatic Scene occurs. It can only be turned off manually by pressing the indicated button or key to return to your Tactics Menu.

When to use (and not use) Auto Battle in One Piece Odyssey

One Piece Odyssey's AI mode will try to optimize character actions in combat for efficiency. It can use your active character's skills, but it will not swap members of your party. It will also not switch around the order in which your characters act. A large part of the battle system hinges on taking advantage of certain attack types: Power, Speed, or Technique, and the AI largely doesn't take this system into account.

If you really just want to zone out and explore the island, turning on AI mode for battles, particularly if the enemies in the area are a lower level than you, makes sense. We don't recommend using AI for boss battles, as using attack-type effectiveness well during these fights can significantly change the outcome. There will also be times when encountering a normal enemy that a Dramatic Battle Scene occurs. We highly recommend that you quickly turn your AI mode off to meet the requirements of the Dramatic Scene. The AI will not consider these requirements, and you may miss out on an opportunity to get extra Exp.
