Oxenfree 2 Garland Mines puzzle solution – How to use the EMF Boosters

Stepping into the past.

There are a variety of puzzles and conundrums put in front of you as you work your way through the point-and-click narrative adventure Oxenfree II, some of which are trickier to solve than others. One of the harder ones comes after you’ve made it across the bridge to Garland Ghost Town. You need to get to the top of the church tower, but the min is blocked, and there’s seemingly no way up. If you’re stuck here, here's how to use the EMF boosters to solve the Garland mines puzzle in Oxenfree 2.

Once you arrive at the church, head down to the rest of the town below and go to the building furthest to the right. Head inside this old Post Office and talk to Hank on the radio. He’ll explain why he has set up the boosters, and you can use the equipment in the room to turn them on. To solve the puzzle, you need to change the numbers on the two working EMF boosters.

As you’ve done previously, use the radio waves to open the time rift outside the General Store here. Go through, and you’ll find the date in the first is 1920. You can’t do anything in here right now as the mine has already collapsed, so come back out of the rift. Back in the present, go up to the Miners Union building next to the graveyard a little to the left. Read the inscription on the plaque here to find the building was put up in 1892 to commemorate the loss of life after the mineshaft collapsed. You need to set the EMF boosters to just before this date to get inside.

The two remaining boosters are set to 9 and 2, meaning they were the two middle numbers of the date. Change the nine to an eight on one booster and the two to a nine on the other. Now use the rift again, and this time, you’ll be transported to 1890. Head right to the mine while still in the rift, and you’ll find the mineshaft is open. Head into the mine to continue your journey.
