Can you and your Pokémon die in Pokémon Legends: Arceus?

Pokémon have never been this scary before.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus takes the Pokémon formula and drastically changes things up. This includes changes to old mechanics and the addition of new features. One thing that players may have noticed from trailers and be curious about is whether or not you or your Pokémon can die.

The answer is no—neither you nor your Pokémon can die in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. But unlike previous games, Pokémon can now attack the trainer directly, which causes them to faint. After taking too much damage, you will black out, lose some of your items and awaken back at your base camp.

This adds a new layer of depth to the Pokémon series as previously only the trainer's Pokémon engaged in combat. Alpha Pokémon and Noble Pokémon will actively attack the player, and they must calm them down or defeat them in a Pokémon battle.

Having the player vulnerable to Pokémon attacks is a first for the series and will certainly be interesting. You can see this for yourself in The Pokémon Company's video below around the 3-minute and 20-second mark.
