Developer ILCA is giving these games a modern finish while still retaining the nostalgia factor. Besides the obvious visual upgrade, many quality-of-life features are being added and all-new features that expand the base game. You can see these below.

Character Customization

This feature was in both the Pokémon Sun and Moon games and Sword and Shield, so it is nice to see it returning in these remakes. Players can change their skin tones as well as their outfits. This variety is also seen in NPC trainers, which is a nice inclusion.

Hidden Moves

Gone are the days of a dedicated HM Pokémon (sorry, Bidoof) as players can use their Pokétch to use HMs. This calls on wild Pokémon to use the moves for you, which frees up relying on your own Pokémon for HMs.

Box Access

Like Pokémon Sword and Shield, players can access their box anywhere. This allows changing your party out at any time. Players will no longer have to make the long trek back to a Pokémon Center to put that newly caught Pokémon into their party.

Pokémon Hideaways

This new feature gives more life to the Underground, which is now the Grand Underground. Veterans to Diamond and Pearl may remember spending a lot of time digging for fossils and treasure here. Now, players will find Pokémon Hideaways where they can catch rare Pokémon in underground habitats.

Experience Share

The Experience makes its way to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and works similar to Sword and Shield's Experience Share. It is a great feature for keeping your Pokémon at the same level, but for those who prefer the challenge, it cannot be toggled off.

Auto-save

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl feature a new auto-save mode that can be toggled on or off. This is a great feature for those who forget to save. Being able to turn it on or off is great because it can prevent auto-saving after mistakes.

Rhythm Game

In Amity Square, players can compete in a rhythm game to see who has the cutest Pokémon. This mode can be played with up to four people and seems to be playable online.

Pokémon Following You

A fantastic feature that should be in any Pokémon game is the ability to have your lead Pokémon out of its Pokéball and have them walk behind you. This returns in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and can be done with Pokémon.
