If you chose to go with Roland’s route in Chapter 13, you are going to be saddled with two difficult battles: one with Thalas and Erika, and another with General Avlora. Thalas and Erika were bearable because of the narrow passages, but you face off against Avlora and her army in an open field.
There is nothing to hide behind, and they have too many mages and warriors. Hawk riders are also summoned in the second turn to spite you. Avlora can one-shot non-buffy characters like Frederica. Healers can cast regen on her, which lets her gain 100 HP every turn while active.
Things may sound grim, but this stage is completely doable. You need to remember the objective: defeat Avlora.

While it’s possible to clear the field before defeating her, it’s not recommended, since it's easy to get overwhelmed. Rather, Lure Avlora to your location before everybody else comes near. Fortunately, those mages and armored units have low speeds and low movement.
Best units for Vengeance Burns Within Me
Benedict
Benedict’s Now…! or Twofold Turn are essential to this type of strategy. Once any of your hard-hitting units have attacked, both can grant them another turn. You can also use it on Anna, who can deal two follow-up attacks if she’s positioned correctly.
Hughette
Position Hughette on higher ground, and make her use Shadowstitching Arrow on melee units. It will immobilize them for two to three turns. You need to have Weapon Rank 2 unlocked so you can upgrade the duration of Shadowstitching Arrow by one turn.
Erador and Flanagan
Erador and Flanagan’s Provoke skills can keep some of the enemies’ attention away from the people attacking Avlora. Both are weak to magic attacks, so make sure to provoke mages when they get too close.
Picoletta, Lionel, or Groma
They can further distract the enemies, much like Erador. Use Decoy for Picoletta and Ruffle Feathers for Lionel. You can also try your luck with his Inciting Whispers skill, which forces an enemy to fight by your side. However, it has a lower chance of landing than Ruffle Feathers.
Groma can both incite and immobilize with Sweeping Kick and Lure In. Just choose the skill with the range that will target the greatest number of units.
Medina
Medina is the ultimate utility unit. Double Items can let her heal twice with pellets, and Fast-Acting Medication gives her the same ability as Benedict’s Now…! (which grants an ally the turn after hers).
Julio
Julio grants TPs. Use his skills on Medina and Benedict. You can sometimes use it on Frederica if she needs an extra TP to cast Blazing Chains, but otherwise, to Medina and Benedict they go.
How to beat Avlora
Use Fleet Footed on the very first turn so you can put your allies into position. Put Hughette up; move everyone forward. If they’re near enough to Avlora, she will step forward.
Surround her with melee units and continuously do follow-up attacks. Roland can be positioned two tiles away because of his reach. Place your hardest-hitting unit, like Serenoa, at her back. Anna can deal two follow-up attacks, so make sure she’s nearby, as well. She can also be positioned two tiles away if she has enough TPs for Throw Poison.
Once you have Avlora surrounded, use Missed Opportunity to make her skip a turn. It costs two QPs. Don't forget to distract the people who get too close with Erador, Lionel, Picoletta, or Groma. Defeat her as fast as you can.
Lastly, if you have the Resurrection Earring, give it to Roland, just in case. His defeat is one of the lose conditions.
