How to level up fast in Triangle Strategy

You can absolutely cheese the grind.

It’s no secret that battles Triangle Strategy can get a little grindy. Your army will rarely be at the recommended level to take on the next stage if you don’t grind. What’s worse: there is no EXP sharing mechanic in the game. If your unit doesn’t attack or retires early into the battle, they won’t gain EXP.

The only way you can grind outside of the main chapter stages is by entering Mental Mock Battles at the Tavern in your encampment.

Whenever a new chapter unlocks, so does a new Mental Mock Battle stage. Its recommended level will often be one number below the main chapter’s. Units gain more EXP the higher the battle's recommended level is compared to their current level. For example, if a level 12 unit uses a skill in a level 23 stage, they'll gain 100 EXP. Even if they die in battle, they keep the EXP.

In fact, even if you lose, you keep the EXP. Conversely, growth slows down when the unit's level is on par with (or higher than) the stage's recommended level.

Moreover, if you want to grind in the chapter battle since its recommended level is higher, you can. Mental Mock Battles are just more time efficient since there's no dialogue and there are usually more enemies. Some stages even have smaller maps, which are faster to navigate.

But entering Mental Mock Battles alone won’t be fast enough to quickly grind the EXP that you need. So, below are a few tips to speed things up:

  1. Attack if you can.
  2. If you can’t attack, use a skill. Simply moving your unit won’t generate EXP, but a support skill like Flame Shield or Cure Wounds will. In fact, use skills even though they won’t contribute anything to the battle (like healing full-HP characters).
  3. If the can neither Attack nor use a skill, throw an HP Recovery Pellet. It's the cheapest item to waste.
  4. Make the character you want to level up faster deal the fatal blow.
  5. Position your units on opposite sides of an enemy to set up a follow-up attack. Both units that deal damage during a follow up attack, even though it’s not their turn, gain EXP.
  6. Retreat if you think you've grinded enough. No need to finish the battle!

Later on, you can also purchase the Jade Thumb Ring from the item shop in your encampment. It increases the amount of EXP earned in battle. You can also lower your difficulty level to Very Easy to speed things up even more.
