How to equip a Stake in Redfall

It's the sure way to kill vampires.

Redfall is Bethesda and Arkane's vampire-infested co-op shooter. Players take on the role of various survivors, each with their own abilities, playstyles, and personalities. While many weapons are in the game, one of the most important is your trusty stake, the ultimate vampire-slaying tool. However, using a stake isn't as easy as it seems, which may leave you wondering how you equip stakes in Redfall.

How do you equip a Stake in Redfall

Don't be like me and spend several minutes staring at your inventory, trying to find and equip a stake to use as a melee weapon. It's impossible. Instead, stakes will appear on any gun that can have one attached, akin to a bayonet. The Don't Cut Yourself stake you got from Anna is nothing more than a skin to change the appearance of the wooden stake.

How to change a Stake skin in Redfall

To change the skin of a stake is straightforward in Redfall; follow these instructions:

  • Open your Loadout.
  • Choose either a Shotgun or an Assault Rifle
  • Press R on PC or X on Xbox
  • At the bottom of the screen, you'll see a Stake box.
    • If the weapon has an equipped stake, click on it and choose another skin from the menu on the left.
    • If the weapon cannot equip a stack, it'll have a red lock.

How to use Stakes in Redfall

Stakes are required to kill vampires. After reducing their health to zero, swap to your weapon with the stake attached. Get close to the vampire and plunge your stake bayonet into its heart to finish them off with the weapon prompt that appears. You can also use abilities to finish them off, but the stake is the most reliable way of turning a vampire into dust, especially if your abilities are on cooldown.

We recommend using your best guns to weaken vampires before running in, then switching to your stake weapon and stabbing them in the heart. Coordinate with your teammates when going for a stake and have them cover you. During the kill animation, you are invulnerable to harm, but as soon as the vampire is no more, be ready for a fight if you get surrounded.
