The Dark Horizon DLC for Remnant 2 is finally here and introduces a new N'Erud storyline, the Warden Archetype, and the Boss Rush game mode. If you've purchased the DLC separately or own the game's ultimate edition, here's how you can access it.
How to play Dark Horizon DLC in Remnant 2
If you've already played the base campaign of Remnant 2, you can start the journey of The Dark Horizon DLC by selecting your favorite character and interacting with the World Stone checkpoint. On the other hand, new players should create a character and play through the tutorial. Thereafter, Ford and Clementine will be absorbed by the World Stone before you. You'll do the same and at the very next checkpoint you encounter, select the Return to Ward 13 option in the center of the map.
The steps to access the Remnant 2 Dark Horizon DLC are the same for new and returning players from here on out; follow the instructions below.
- Interact with the World Stone (checkpoint) to open the World Map. You'll be greeted with a message saying the Adventure Mode is now available.
- Select World Settings at the bottom of the menu (see first image above).
- On the Select Game Mode screen, choose the Create New Adventure Mode option (see second image).
- Now, select The Dark Horizon One Shot and choose your preferred difficulty level on the next screen; I suggest Survivor or Veteran for new players.
- You have now successfully created a new Adventure Mode. Click on Adventure The Dark Horizon from the game mode selection menu (see the third image) to begin.
From there, you can select N'Erud from the map as shown in the image above, and choose the primary objective. The first quest will be at Devoid Quietus where you can experience the new world the developers have created as part of The Dark Horizon DLC in Remnant 2.
What is Adventure Mode in Remnant 2?
Unlike the Campaign where the story follows a defined path, Adventure Mode allows you to play a world setting separately without resetting the story progress. You can battle a boss, explore your favorite terrain, complete a specific quest, or just level up via the Adventure Mode. The Dark Horizon Adventure Mode will not affect the main campaign because it's separate. Think of it as a standalone quest rather than a continuation of the primary storyline.
What is The Dark Horizon in Remnant 2?
The Dark Horizon takes place in a sector of the N'Erud world where corrupted machines have taken over. Rogue AI and robots are controlled by a mysterious entity and you'll discover more about it in your playthrough. Expect new bosses to fight, collect useful gear, uncover dungeons, and try out the glider travel system (see image above).
As you enter the new biome of N'Erud, you'll hear the entity's voice and how surprised it is by your presence. As you fight off the initial wave of enemy drones and reach the first checkpoint in this wasteland, the first NPC you'll meet will be the Gardener (see image above). Talk to this character and it'll reveal some key information about this place and also tell you that your arrival was awaited. The Gardener's mind is also corrupted by the entity but it'll try to warn you to stay away between conversations. You're not going to turn back, are you?
What is included in The Dark Horizon DLC in Remnant 2?
I've already discussed the main highlight of the new Remnant 2 DLC: The Dark Horizon adventure in the world of N'Erud. Besides new characters, bosses, and the Warden Archetype, you can also look for new weapons, amulets, and rings in this surreal world. However, to unlock everything, you'll need multiple playthroughs.
The Dark Horizon DLC also includes the new Boss Rush game mode. If you're done exploring and simply want to take on boss fights in Remnant 2, this mode is just for you. Create a Boss Rush Mode from the World Map menu just like you did to access the DLC, and battle a random selection of bosses. You can choose between Triple Threat, Trial By Fire, and The Gauntlet, in the order of increasing number of bosses.
The Prism System is also being introduced with this update and it'll allow you to make various character builds via the relic fragment system. You can level up your prism enhancements to gain up to five additional stat bonuses. The Boss Rush mode and Prism System feature are free to all players regardless of whether they have purchased the DLC or not.
What is the Warden in Remnant 2?
Warden is the latest Archetype you can equip as your character in Remnant 2. Inspired by the robot-infested world of N'Erud featured in The Dark Horizon, this operator can be unlocked after acquiring the Command Module. Warden comes with advanced armor and is accompanied by his tactical drone. The drone's abilities include the shield, heal, and combat modes, which are very effective, enough that the Warden is a top-tier Archetype.
How long is The Dark Horizon DLC in Remnant 2?
The overworld introduced in The Dark Horizon DLC is bigger than the worlds that came with the last two DLCs for Remnant 2; therefore, expect more playtime this time around. It may take players anywhere between four to six hours to complete one walkthrough of The Dark Horizon DLC depending on the difficulty level. Having said that, you'll have to play the DLC multiple times for 100% completion and to unlock everything in it.
