The basics of SCP: Secret Laboratory!

SCP: Secret Laboratory is one of the various SCP (Secure, Contain, and Protect) games based around the security of alien creatures with mind-boggling abilities. SCP: Secret Laboratory is multiplayer, unlike the majority of SCP games, giving it a similar feel to other indie games like Phasmophobia and Forewarned. For those who love the lore and want to jump in, or have never heard of any of this, here are some of the basics to get started!

Character Classes and Roles

Within this particular brand of SCP game, due to its multiplayer nature, players will have different roles to play. However, instead of players choosing their roles and working together on separate tasks, everyone will spawn as a lower form and slowly evolve into the other forms. The six roles are Class D-Personnel, Chaos Insurgency, Scientist, Nine-Tailed Fox Lieutenants, Facility Guards, and SCP Objects.

Class-D Personnel

Expendable inmates are used by the SCP Foundation to test the anomalies. Their primary goal is to escape the facility, evading SCPs, and MTF. Chaos Insurgency assists them in escaping.

  • Sprint - Temporarily increases movement speed. (Left Shift)
  • Sneak - Movements become silent at the cost of speed. (C)
  • Unarmed - No weapons are equipped at the start, find a weapon if possible, or use their skills to get around without one.

The top priority for Class-D Personnel is to upgrade their gear and find the exit. To upgrade gear, players will need to find an access card among its various spawns before opening up the Refinery. Set the Refinery machine to Fine to be able to upgrade any items in the intake as many times as necessary. After this, players will need to navigate their way out by finding the Entrance Zone, Gate A or B, taking an elevator, and following the road out. Once they have escaped, they'll spawn as a Chaos Insurgent.

Scientist

The SCP Foundation Scientists are tasked with the research of anomalous objects. Their primary goal is to escape the facility, evading SCPs and Chaos Insurgency. MTF assists them in escaping.

  • Sprint - Temporarily increases movement speed. (Left Shift)
  • Sneak - Movements become silent at the cost of speed. (C)
  • Access Card - Automatically start with an access card, making escape slightly easier.

Due to their weaker disposition and early access to an access card, Scientists have to be careful and warry of who they trust. Many Class-D Personnel will be willing to kill a Scientist to gain an access card and get out. Scientists will need to take the same main steps as Class-D Personnel and upgrade their found equipment to escape. Once they reach the exit, their spawn as a Nine-Tailed Fox.

Facility Guard

A Guard within the facility whose aim is to help any Scientist escape and stop the looming SCP threat. Cooperates with MTF to get this done while eliminating anyone or anything else that gets in the way.

  • Sprint - Temporarily increases movement speed. (Left Shift)
  • Sneak - Movements become silent at the cost of speed. (C)
  • Standard Issue - Starts equipped with a rifle, grenades, radio, a disarmer, and an access card.

There are two top objectives for these characters. To capture and contain Class-D Personnel or straight up kill them. The second main goal is to help the Scientists make it out in one piece. Simply follow them around and be a human shield or weapon to enable them to make it out safely.

Chaos Insurgency

Chaos Insurgencies are members of an undercover organization whose primary goal is to disrupt the SCP Foundation operations and utilize SCPs for their advantage. They are tasked with eliminating Scientists and Foundation Staff while escorting D-Class to safety.

  • Sprint - Temporarily increases movement speed. (Left Shift)
  • Sneak - Movements become silent at the cost of speed. (C)
  • Armed & Dangerous - Starts with a Light Machine Gun, a Hacking Tool, and First-Aid Kit.

As previously stated, the main focus of the Chaos Insurgency is to extract the D-Class. Outside of this, use force against Foundation staff when necessary, but they aren't important as the escapees.

Nine-Tailed Fox Lieutenants

A lieutenant of an elite task force that responds to breaches, ensuring the security of the Foundation. Their primary goal is to eliminate all SCPs, Chaos Insurgency, and D-Class. Outside of this, they should escort Scientists to safety and follow the Commander's orders.

  • Sprint - Temporarily increases movement speed. (Left Shift)
  • Sneak - Movements become silent at the cost of speed. (C)
  • Standard Issue - Start of with a Rifle, Grenades, Disarmer, and an Access Card.

Again, the main point of these characters is about protection, not active elimination. Instead of hunting down every character type against the player, make the priority the Scientists. Secondarily, these characters can go and activate the nuke controls from, up from the Silo elevator before heading to Alpha Warhead Control and launching it.

SCPs

SCPs are anomalies or alien objects whose one concern is to kill, taint, or manipulate humans to their liking. There are a couple of different SCPs that players can choose from that offer slightly different abilities.

  • SCP-173 'Peanut' - Peanut is extremely fast and can kill players with a single touch, however they cannot move while someone is looking at them.
  • SCP-096 'Shy Guy' - Shy Guy will rage if he is looked at, making him extremely fast and deadly, with the ability to bust down doors. When out of rage, Shy Guy will return to slowly creeping through the hallways and crying.
  • SCP-106 'The Old Man' - The Old Man is slow and tanky easily bypassing doors via corrosion. He can create black holes the corrode and teleport items a short distance and can teleport humans and items into his own pocket dimension. He doesn't take damage from bullets but will be recaged instead.
  • SCP-939-89 'With Many Voices' - With Many Voices is a blind amorphous creature that sees through sound alone. They have frightening speed and moves silently. However, they are Ultrasensitive, meaning that they cannot see a human unless they run, bump into the character, or fire a weapon. They can also mimic human voices, making them especially creepy to deal with.
  • SCP-079 'The Old AI' - As an AI, this SCP can only interact with players through the security systems. They can open and close doors to their bidding, overcharge the Tesla gates to kill other players, lockdown certain areas, and lastly is extremely difficult to destroy.
  • SCP-049 'The Plague Doctor' - Slow and fragile is not a great place to start. However, those playing as the Plague Doctor can kill enemies with a single touch and reanimate the recently dead to serve them as zombies.
  • SCP-049-2 'The Cured' - Fast and incredibly dangerous as they show up in hordes and can create more of themselves from the characters they kill.
