How to find someone in Shadows of Doubt: Fingerprint, phone number, photos, & more

In Shadows of Doubt, you will be doing a lot of searching around for suspects. However, sometimes you won't be given a lot of information. So, here's our guide on how to find someone in Shadows of Doubt, even with limited information.

How to find someone with only a phone number in Shadows of Doubt

Finding someone from only a phone number is harder than it appears. You won't be able to get an exact address, but you can whittle down your suspect to a single building. First, you'll want to head to any Diner in your city, and use the phone to call your suspect. (You can perform this from other buildings, but Diners are consistently easy locations to find phone record boxes.) It doesn't matter if they answer or not, just hang up when you've made the call. You'll then want to head to the courtyard of the Diner (the bit blocked off by the wooden fence), and locate one of the buildings shown below.

Go on in, but be careful. Each of these areas have a scout laser, which you should deactivate before trying to get into the phone records box. You'll need to pick the phone box open, and then interact with the switchboard panel. This will bring up your case board. Hit the 'Outgoing' tab to see all calls made from the building, and check to see what building the phone call went out to.

From there, you'll need to do some good old-fashioned detective work. Utilize any additional pieces of information, scour resident files, and ask around to find your suspect.

If the only piece of information you've got on a suspect is a fingerprint, this can be a tricky case indeed. However, there are a few things you can do to improve your chances here.

If you're on any case, a great bet is to scan the mailboxes of any apartment buildings you come across. It's tedious work, but if you get a match on a mailbox, you already have an address on your suspect, and it's as simple as tracking them down from there.

Something else you can do is check the employee details files of any businesses you might be investigating. These files are always kept in a filing cabinet, usually in the locked off managerial area of a business. (Marked with a blue CCTV symbol on the door.)

All employee details files will contain the fingerprints of the citizen in question, and you might get lucky and hit a match. If you do, find the desk of the employee in question and locate their employment contract, which is usually kept in or on their desk. Reading this will provide you with the address of your suspect. You can find which desk belongs with which employee by checking the name placards on their desks, which when hovered over, will show you whose desk it is.

Another option is to check out the Government Database in City Hall, which we discussed more in our Shadows of Doubt Walkthrough Guide. This will be tedious work, however, as normally you need a name. However, you can input some random two letters, see what names pop out, and scour from there. I'd advise against doing this, though. Going through a heap of the citizen files can really take some of the challenge of later cases out.

How to find someone with just a description in Shadows of Doubt

This is any case in which all you have is a description of their physical traits, and I'm sad to say, these ones can prove to be a total waste of your time. If you don't have a photograph (discussed later) of the suspect, your best bet for these cases is to simply leave them until later.

As you do other cases, talk to people, and compile various profiles, there's a chance you'll run into someone matching this description. Better yet, the autofill feature will kick in when you do, automatically filling out 'unknown citizen' files as you uncover more information about them, whether you put it together yourself or not. Check back on the case from time to time to see if there's any new information.

If you're really in a rush, then just start conversations with random passersby in the street. You won't be able to ask them if they know the suspect (you need a photo or name for that), but you can hit 'inspect' when looking at any citizen to see if they have matching traits. Using the Kaizen V-Love Plus Sync Disk can really help here.

These instances, whilst tedious at times, can actually be really simple. If you have a photo of your target, simply approach any Citizen and hit the 'Do you know this person?' dialogue option.

Some of them will tell you to get lost, and some of them will say they don't know them, but you'll eventually run into someone who will give you a rough estimation of where they last saw them, or they'll tell you exactly who they are.

When you finally have a name, simply head to any city directory in any business with a phone and job board, and get their address.

How to find someone from only their workplace in Shadows of Doubt

Finding someone with only their workplace is a bit of a fifty fifty in terms of difficulty. In order to locate someone from where they work, head to the business in question and find the locked managerial area as discussed earlier in the fingerprints section.

However, as you only have the place they work itself, you're going to have to properly read through each detail file here, and match any other pieces of information you might already have. Once again, the autofill feature comes in very handy here, so keep checking on your case board to see if you've hit any matches. From there, are discussed earlier, locate their desk to find their employment contract, and get to it.

How to find someone by job title or salary in Shadows of Doubt

This is another situation in which you might need to leave the case on the back burner if this is all the information you have. Keep checking employee detail files, and wait for the autofill feature to kick in, or check any employment contracts you find in offices or homes to find a match for the job title, or job salary.

How to find someone by Blood Type or Age in Shadows of Doubt

Once again, this is another 'leave it for now' issue for both pieces of information. In order to find blood types in Shadows of Doubt, you'll need to locate 'organ donor' cards, which people usually keep in their wallets. Age can be figured out by finding birth certificates, which people usually keep in boxes in wardrobes in their place of residence. If you have an exact date of birth, instead of JUST their age in years, this can be slightly more useful, but multiple citizens can still share a birthdate. Once again, just check birth certificates in homes/wallets.

If you only have one or both of these pieces of information, you might want to consider closing the case, as it would simply be too difficult to track them down. Even the autofill feature needs unique information, and ages and blood types can be shared amongst multiple citizens.

How to find someone from CCTV footage in Shadows of Doubt

Finding someone from CCTV footage is actually basically the same process as finding someone from just their picture, it just takes a few extra steps. Locate your suspect on CCTV, and hit the 'Print' button on screen. This will print out a copy of that surveillance shot, which you'll want to take.

  • A CCTV interface in Shadows of Doubt
  • A CCTV photo in Shadows of Doubt.
  • A citizen tied to a CCTV image in Shadows of Doubt.

Bring up the CCTV shot, and hit the 'Connections' tab on the right of the image. You'll see an entry that says something to the effect of 'Unknown Citizen appears in outside' followed by the time and date of the image. Click this tab to get an 'Unknown Citizen' file, albeit with an image of the suspect. From there, follow the steps in the finding someone from a photo section.

How to find someone from their name in Shadows of Doubt

All of the tips in this guide are mostly there to help you find the name of your suspect, because once you have it, it's basically case closed. To find someone from their name, head to any location with a phone and job board, and look for the 'City Directory'. It's a blue book that'll be next to the phone.

  • A city directory in Shadows of Doubt.
  • The city directory interface in Shadows of Doubt.

The city directory operates with 'FIRSTNAMEINITIAL. FULLSURNAME', so say you're looking for Ethan McBridge, you'd select the 'MNO' tab on the right of the book, and look for 'E. McBride'. Open up the name of your suspect, and that'll bring up their address for you to pin. Now get out there, and get arresting/robbing!
