How to recruit Demons in Shin Megami Tensei V

Negotiation is the name of the game.

Shin Megami Tensei V is the latest title from Atlus. Like previous entries in the franchise, players can recruit Demons they encounter to form their party to overcome the game’s many enemies. Because party construction is such a massive part of Shin Megami Tensei V, players must learn to recruit these Demons.

Aside from mini-bosses and bosses, players can recruit the Demons they encounter in the Netherworld. Players can converse with Demons during battle using the Talk option when the player character has his turn in battle to recruit a Demon.

Once players initiate a conversation with a Demon, they’ll have to convince the foe to join their side. Discussions may include answering a series of questions to the enemy’s liking, offering up money, or transferring over some HP and MP to satisfy the potential future party member.

Keep in mind that Demons with a higher level than the player character cannot join the party. Only Demons with levels equal to or below the Nahobino are eligible for negotiation.

It’s also important to note that failing a negotiation with a Demon can lead to the enemy attacking instantly, robbing the player of their turn in battle and leaving them vulnerable. Take care to answer questions in negotiations carefully, and be prepared to retaliate if talks fail.

Make sure you’ve got some room in your party as well. If players have no empty party slots, they won’t obtain a demon, even if they succeed in negotiations.
