However, both Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V are part of what is known as the Megami Tensei Multiverse.

In short, the multiverse makes up a ton of different worlds, dimensions, and both Persona 5 and Shin Megami Tensei V exist in one of these worlds.

These worlds are separate from each other but contain many links to both worlds and game series and share a lot of gameplay mechanics.

This was also the case for the other games in the Persona and Shin Megami Tensei series, but this wasn't always the case. Originally, Persona was a spinoff title from the Shin Megami Tensei series, which can be seen with the first two games and how demons were still the main enemies in both games.

But as more games were released, the Persona series eventually evolved into a different game series and changed a few things that linked the Shin Megami Tensei series to its world.

The biggest change was made to the Demons. Instead of being called demons like in the main Megami series, they were now referred to as Personas. Later on, concepts were changed, and Persona further formed its own identity.
