How to keep Shrine Upgrades in Sifu

There's only one way to do it.

Sifu allows players to upgrade their shrines, but they aren't always permanent. You cannot start levels with shrine upgrades that you obtained from that level previously. There's only one way to keep them.

The only way to keep a shrine upgrade from a level is to beat that level at an age younger than the first time you beat it. Consequently, if you complete a level at age 20, you cannot redo it for additional shrines and upgrades.

Taking shortcuts at a younger age can cause you to miss out on certain shrine upgrades, so don't use shortcuts to beat a level at a younger age. The more you mess up on levels, the more skills you will be able to unlock until you can beat every level at age 20.

Can you reset your youngest run in Sifu?

After you've beaten a level at age 20, the only way to reset it for a new run is to start the game from scratch. Although it may seem unfair or unfun, we can't think of any other way to do it. You can't undo it if you got fewer statues than the maximum level in your youngest run.
