Best gadgets in Spider-Man 2 & how to unlock them

Spider-Man sure has some neat toys.

Spider-Man 2 has double the Spider-Men and plenty of gadgets to support their superpowers. Gadgets can even be upgraded into more powerful forms, but these upgrades come with some requirements.

While every gadget is fun to use in Spider-Man 2, some are better than others. Here are the best Spider-Man 2 gadgets and how to unlock and upgrade them.

All gadgets ranked in Spider-Man 2

You can unlock every gadget in Spider-Man 2 by the time you reach level 13, but you'll need to gather the necessary components, which are typically Tech Parts and Hero Tokens. Below are the best gadgets to unlock and upgrade first in Spider-Man 2, especially early on.

1. Upshot

  • How to get: Tech Parts, Hero Tokens
  • Best Upgrades: Heavy Pop Up, Fire Power

The Upshot is my favorite Spider-Man 2 gadget, especially when facing multiple enemies. It deals damage and knocks enemies into the air; you can then follow up with air combos or target an enemy further away. It can be upgraded using Tech Parts, Hero Tokens, Rare Tech Parts, and City Tokens. I recommend the Heavy Pop Up upgrade, which allows you to knock Brute enemies into the air, and the Fire Power upgrade to increase the damage output.

2. Web Grabber

  • How to get: Tech Parts, Hero Tokens
  • Best Upgrades: Grabtastic, Heave Ho!

The Web Grabber works similarly to the Upshot, but webs enemies and pulls them together instead of knocking them in the air. Grouping enemies this way is perfect for following up with one of Peter or Miles' abilities. Collect Tech Parts, Hero Tokens, Rare Tech Parts, and City Tokens to upgrade this gadget. I suggest the Grabtastic upgrade to pull more enemies together and the Heave Ho! upgrade to grab Brute enemies.

3. Ricochet Web

  • How to get: Tech Parts, Hero Tokens
  • Best Upgrades: Web Punch, Split Shot

The Ricochet Web works great with the Web Grabber, webbing up enemies in close proximity as it bounces back and forth. You need to collect Tech Parts, Rare Tech Parts, and Hero Tokens if you want to fully upgrade it. I recommend going with the Web Punch upgrade to web up Brute enemies and the Split Shot upgrade to web up larger groups.

4. Web-Shooters

  • How to get: Unlocked at start.
  • Best Upgrades: Recycle, Splash Zone

The Web-Shooters are your standard gadget, but they always come in handy. You start the game with the Web-Shooters equipped, and I recommend keeping it as a backup. You can upgrade it with Tech Parts, Rare Tech Parts, and Hero Tokens. The Recycle upgrade allows you to gain Focus by hitting enemies with the Web-Shooters, and the Splash Zone upgrade allows you to hit a group of enemies and web them with the third shot.

5. Concussion Burst

  • How to get: Tech Parts, Hero Tokens
  • Best Upgrades: Lure, Mine Deploy

The Concussion Burst is my least favorite gadget, but it can still come in handy. It clears the area, knocking back enemies to give Spider-Man more room. It requires Tech Parts, Rare Tech Parts, City Tokens, and Hero Tokens to upgrade. The Lure upgrade is great for stealth missions, drawing enemies to a location of your choosing. Meanwhile, Mine Deploy allows for even more explosions and knocks back enemies after the initial detonation.
