Where is the 4th fauna on Indum II – Starfield survey mission

A fishy business...

As a fan of No Man’s Sky, I love the fact you can survey planets for profit in the action RPG Starfield in a similar way. As well as finding resources and completing quests, you can sell the completed survey data, but it can be very frustrating. If you’re asking yourself where is the fourth fauna on Indum II as I was, for its survey mission or otherwise, read on.

Fourth fauna Indum II location in Starfield

I found that if you land at the two sites that are pre-marked on the Indum II planet map (Deserted Mineral Plant and Pilgrim’s Rest), you can get all but one of the resources, fauna, and flora you need to complete your survey. Using your scanner to head to any non-building or cave location (look for flag and wavelength symbols) should get you the three anomalies. But despite walking miles through swamps, which apparently had the last fauna, I couldn’t find it. Until I went into the sea.

The final creature, the Schooling Sawhead Grazer, is actually a fish. This means that once you find it, it can still be tough to take down, as you can’t go far into the water before your weapons can’t be used. You'll want to fight them if possible, as their deaths seem to attract more Sawheads, and you'll need eight to survey them completely.

I looked for rocks that jutted into the water and stood on those. You can also jump and shoot while in the air, which takes some tricky timing but does work. Be careful, though, as larger Sawhead Grazers will fight back, and you can’t use gear such as Med Packs in the water either.

How to get to the sea quickly

To pinpoint a sea location, click on the map view until you find a spot where you can’t land due to it being in the sea (1). Now click an area as close to the water mass as possible that’s a swamp (2), land there, and run over to the sea on foot (see above example). I, for one, hope I never need to go in the sea in Starfield again…
