Where Should You Keep the Artifacts in Starfield?

Another tricky decision.

After the harrowing experiences of the High Price to Pay main storyline quest in Starfield, it becomes obvious the artifacts aren’t safe at The Lodge. However, a couple of ideas for what to do with them present themselves, and, of course, that decision is left up to you. So, where should you keep the Armillary that holds the Artifacts in Starfield?

I should say right up front that there is no definitive answer to where to keep the Armillary. However, for the majority of players (including me), the best place to keep the Artifact Armillary is on your ship. It’s also important to note that you change your mind and remove the artifacts later whichever you choose, and even keep them on you if you like. But whichever you choose, that location will become a beacon for Starborn attacks.

Keeping the Armillary on your ship

There are two main reasons why this option appealed to me most:

  • They’re always with you: You know the artifacts are close at hand at all times. If the Starborn attack, you won’t have to jump halfway across the galaxy to respond.
  • You can escape relatively easily: While you’re making your home ship the focal point of the Starborn’s attacks, you can easily evade them simply by using your Grav Drive to jump away.

Another bonus is that you simply add new artifacts via the ship console whenever you find one, rather than having to go back to your base every time.

Keeping the artifacts at an outpost

Building an outpost is a time-consuming and costly business and one that many Starfield players won’t take the time to do. However, if this is your jam, you can have a lot of fun building an impenetrable fortress and even send some companions in to defend it. Just remember that if it gets attacked, you’re going to have to go and pick up the pieces and perhaps do some repairs.

Keeping the artifacts in your personal inventory

If you like the idea of having the artifacts close to hand, you also have the option of scrapping the Artifact Armillary altogether and keeping the artifacts on you. They don’t weigh anything, so they don’t encumber you, but it does mean you can be randomly attacked by the Starborn anywhere. If this appeals, go for it! Plus, you know you can switch to one of the other options whenever you need to.
