One of my favorite things about Nintendo games is the amiibo released to accompany them. With the release of Super Mario RPG, I couldn't help but wonder if there are amiibo for the game and what they do.
Does Super Mario RPG have amiibo support?
Unfortunately, there is no amiibo support in Super Mario RPG. It is a faithful remake of the original SNES game, which was released long before the first amiibo. As such, it makes sense Nintendo and Square Enix did not include amiibo support in the remake. While some Nintendo remakes receive amiibo support regardless, it appears that Super Mario RPG does not.

While there was no support at launch, it is possible—albeit unlikely—that amiibo support will be added to Super Mario RPG post-launch. If it is added, I can see amiibo granting items to the player like they do in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Additional costumes or extra level up bonuses could also be a good use of amiibo, but I don't have high hopes of this feature being added.
Will Super Mario RPG amiibo get released?
There is no guarantee Super Mario RPG will have accompanying amiibo released. It is a Square Enix game as much as it is a Nintendo game, so there may be some legal issues if amiibo were created based on characters made by Square Enix. Geno is one of the most popular characters in the game, and one fans desperately want an amiibo of, but it doesn't seem like they will get their wish.
