Plucky Squire Walkthrough Chapter 1 - All missing word locations

Wondering where to find the missing words for the first sentence in The Plucky Squire?

  • The gate swung open first word location in The Plucky Squire.
  • The gate swung open second word location in The Plucky Squire.

"GATE" is found behind the bush on the left side of the page, "OPEN" is hiding in the tree on the far right; you'll need to hit the tree to get the word to drop down.

The rest of the sentence puzzles you'll come across in The Plucky Squire need you to replace one word with another. You'll find every solution for these sentences in the next section.

Plucky Squire Chapter 2 - All rearranging puzzle solutions

If you've come across one of the sentence puzzles that requires you to switch out one word for another, don't despair! The list below shows every rearranging puzzle in The Plucky Squire and its solution!

When you reach this page, you'll be greeted by Topsy the cat, who basically tells you that you can hit certain words to remove them from a sentence. Go ahead and swing your sword at the word "FOREST" for this puzzle.

To get the key, you'll need to bring Topsy's biscuits over to them - they're on the far right side of the map.

As you can see in the video, you can't get through the thick line of trees. You'll need to go around the top of the map, drag the biscuits to the first point, and then put the word "RUIN" in the gap where "FOREST" was.

Continue dragging the biscuits across to the second point, change the word back to "FOREST," and drag the biscuits again.

Change the word one more time, back to "RUIN," and you'll be able to finish dragging the biscuits over to Topsy. Topsy will roll over and reveal the key.

Plucky Squire Chapter 3

After defeating the monsters, grab the key from the left side of the double-page spread, take it over to the door on the right, and unlock that section. Hit the word "SCATTERED" and pick it up.

Drop it in the center for a moment to switch the word "STACKED" out with "SCATTERED."

It took me a second to figure the next part of the puzzle out, but you just need to take the word "STACKED" over to the papers in the top right corner. This will stack them up as a block that you can drag over to the gap by the exit. Walk across, and you're done!

Plucky Squire Chapter 4

This one takes a few minutes. Grab the word "HUGE" to start with, and walk it over to the left side of the book. Defeat all the monsters to lower the door.

Go through the portal on the left page, and come back in through the portal on the right page.

Defeat all the monsters in the empty moat.

Take the word "CLOSED" out of the sentence by the gate.

Go fetch the word "FULL" from the right side of the giant bug and take it to the moat sentence using the portals. Cross the moat and flip the switch that you couldn't get to before. The door at the bottom of the moat should wiggle.

Grab the word "DRAINED" and drain the moat again by switching the word "FULL" out with "DRAINED." This will reveal a little creature and a new sentence with the word "OPEN."

Take the word "OPEN" to the gate sentence and place it in the empty spot.

Now that the gate is open, you have access to the tiny frog. Go and pick up the word "HUGE" and put it where the word "TINY" is. The frog will, well, become huge, and you'll get an achievement. Run the word "TINY" down to the giant bug blocking the way.

A TINY LILYPAD FLOATED ON THE WATER

Clear the word "TINY" from the sentence here and pop through the portal. Turn the page back twice to the spread where you made the bug tiny and the frog huge.

Use the portal to access the page again, grab the word "HUGE" from next to the frog, and then pop back out of the book.

Turn the pages again so that you're at the lilypad page and enter through the portal.

Throw the word "HUGE" into the gap in the sentence and watch as the lilypad takes up half of the river.

IT WAS NOW NIGHT IN THE SWAMPS

There's a lot of back and forth with the night-in-the-swamps puzzle. Clear out the monsters, run around the corner to the right, and go up the stairs to get to the portal.

Turn the page back one and grab the word "DAYTIME." Take this to the page with the singing frogs and put it where the word "NIGHT" was. The frogs will move and go to sleep.

Defeat the monsters in the section on the left, and drag the block up to the button that lowers the yellow door.

Take the word "SOLID" to the platform with the portal on the right. Change "DAYTIME" back to "NIGHT," and move "SOLID" to the bridge sentence that used to say "BROKEN."

What you need to do now is take the block that you moved to lower the yellow door and move it behind the frog that blocks the path to the bridge during the daytime. You have to move the block behind the frog at night to stop him moving into the path.

Change it back to daytime, move the block, walk over the bridge, and down the stairs. Done.

WHAT A GREAT CARVED STAIRCASE (The Shakespearian Volumes)

Once you've dispatched the monsters, grab the word "STAIRCASE" out of the first sentence by the stairs to make your life easier. Go up the stairs. Move the block over the button, and get rid of the rest of the monsters.

Move the block down to the bottom left corner and change the word "BLOCK" out for "STAIRCASE" so that you can access the upper section on the left. You'll see me mess around a lot in the video at this point as I try to figure out the right way to do this.

Go back down the stairs with the word "BLOCK" and put it in the sentence there. Use the portals to leave and come back in from the upper floor so you can take out the big monster.

Grab the Volume I book, take it to the snails in the center, and move over to the right side with the key that they give you.

Battle the caterpillars, get Volume II, and take that back to the snails.

Plucky Squire Chapter 6

Poor bunny! Ignore my slight mess-up at the beginning of this, using a controller can be a bit tedious at times.

Use the portal to escape the book and tilt it to move the wooden block. This will reveal a key that you can use to get into the room on the right and grab the word "METAL."

Go and put "METAL" in the block's sentence. Once the block is metal, slide it back to the right and then tilt the book so it slams into the wall. This will force the block through the wall and show you a hidden cave.

Pick up the word "GLOWING" from by the cave mushrooms and put it into the block's sentence to light up the cave.

Kill the monsters, get the key, and open the new room. Pick up the word "CHEESE"

For an extra achievement here, add the word "CHEESE" to the sentence by the mushrooms.

Once you've done that, put "CHEESE" into the block's sentence to make a block of cheese and slide it back towards the rat's cave. You'll be able to leave this area without getting eaten now.

Plucky Squire Chapter 6

Clear out the monsters and head towards the vine-covered door on the right side of the page. Moonbeard will remind you to come to his house for more bombs, which you can get by turning back to the image of his little cottage and going inside.

Throw the bomb at the vines and go inside. Defeat all the monsters, interact with the portal, and tilt the book to make the pillar fall over (my game's pillar wouldn't fall unless I was tilting the book from the left page).

Cross the pillar bridge, grab the word "FRACTURED" and take it out of the new exit with you. Defeat the monsters, go through the gate, and STOP.

For an extra achievement, go back a page and get the word "CHEESE" and make one of the pillars a CHEESE pillar before you start breaking them.

Now that you're back, put the word "FRACTURED" in both of the pillar sentences (one after the other), and leave the book through the portal.

Use your STOP STAMP on Gozzy. Tilt the book one way, until the tower falls. Wait for Gozzy to do his dialogue, and then use the STOP STAMP again. Tilt the other tower onto Gozzy.

He'll fold up, and you'll be able to walk over him to leave the area.

Plucky Squire Chapter 7

I spent far too much time trying to figure this one out so the video is cut in a couple of places - you're not missing anything. Go through the portal by the skull, and come back out through the one to the right of it.

Grab the word "ICE," go back through the portal, and put "ICE" where "WATER" is in the sentence.

Kill all the monsters you can while the area is iced over and dig up the scroll from the X.

Change the sentence back to "WATER," use the portal to get to the platform on the left page, and kill the water monsters. Grab the red diamond, take it to the skull, and pop it in.

Head over to the left, use the stars to yeet yourself onto the ship, and hit all three orbs.

This opens the chest, but you need to do it quick - there's a timer. Grab the blue diamond, jump off the ship to the left, and take it to the skull.

Plucky Squire Chapter 7

Take the word "BATTERY" out of the first sentence and drop it near the top for a moment. Take out the goblin on the far left, switch out the word "GOBLIN" for "BATTERY," and put the battery on the button (top right of the first area).

Grab "GOBLIN" and put it where "BATTERY" was at the start of this level. This will create a giant, metal goblin. Exit the book using the portal and use your BOMB STAMP to move the big goblin to the empty battery holder.

Switch out "GOBLIN" for "BATTERY" in the bottom left sentence, and the bridge will appear.

Plucky Squire Chapter 9

  • Jot in a jail cell in The Plucky Squire.
  • Jot escaping a jail cell in The Plucky Squire.

There are no word puzzles in Chapter Eight. The last word puzzle for The Plucky Squire appears in Chapter Nine, and it's extremely easy - especially considering the difficulty of some of the earlier puzzles. Chapter Nine has plenty of other puzzles for you to solve, but you'll need to get Jot out of his jail cell first.

Hit the word "SHUT" from the sentence by the door. Once you've thrown it out of the way, go to the left side of the room and into the hidden extension. Grab the word "BROKEN" and put it in the gap in the sentence by the door.

This will break the door and allow Jot to escape.

How to get Light Bulbs for Martina

Meeting Martina in The Plucky Squire.

Light Bulbs are used as currency in Plucky Squire. When you collect enough Light Bulbs, you can buy items from Martina, who runs a traveling store that will appear throughout your adventure.

You'll first run into Martina and her store on your way to Tome Tower - this adventure occurs after you've gotten the beeswax for your friendly neighborhood Wizard, Moonbeard, at the start of the game.

Martina's first store on page "THE GATE SWUNG OPEN" is just two items: a new sword skill (the Sword Throw Badge) worth 30 Light Bulbs, and an Art Scroll worth 20 Light Bulbs. Stores after this will have more items with higher costs, but Art Scrolls are always 20 Light Bulbs when Martina carries them.

Light Bulbs can be found around the map by:

  • Defeating monsters.
  • Hitting trees with your sword.
  • Destroying bushes with your sword.
  • Exploring Sam's desk in the real world.
  • Destroying bushes and trees on Sam's desk in the real world.
  • Defeating monsters in the real world.

I'd advise doing all three of these on every page of the story, or you won't have enough for Martina's items as you continue Jot's story.

The Plucky Squire may be a strange mixture of a visual novel and a platformer game, but it's incredibly enjoyable and lighthearted.

Quick warning to controller users who are looking at our The Plucky Squire walkthrough: I had a lot of issues getting Jot to interact with the book using LT/RT and ended up having to use the Q key on my laptop to "pick up" the book before I could change the pages. I don't know if this is unique to my controller or a bug in the game.
