One of the most feared and mysterious figures in the Warhammer world is the Great Maw. A deity revered by the Ogre Kingdoms, the Ogres worship the Great Maw out of fear and respect. Unfortunately, the strange entity has rarely appeared in Warhammer Media. Its appearance in Total War: Warhammer 3 is fans' most comprehensive look at the deity yet.
A vast open, circular mouth in the Mountains of Mourn, the Great Maw is the focal point of the Ogre campaign. Satisfying the whims of the giant mouth-mountain is the aim of all Ogre Kingdoms.
In the Warhammer lore, the Great Maw is theorized to have been an enormous crater formed from the impact of a massive comet. Thanks to the influences of Chaos, this giant crater that was already worshipped by the Ogres eventually gained a strange kind of god-like power of its own.
In Total War: Warhammer 3, this Maw is incredibly imposing. A huge mouth in the world, bigger than most cities and settlements. Platforms and altars lead up to the crater, with pots of blood constantly pouring into the Great Maw to try and fill its hunger. In Total War: Warhammer 3, Ogre players will have to balance their ambition with satisfying the appetite of the Great Maw.
Ogres have made meaty offerings to the Great Maw in the lore before. But in Total War: Warhammer 3, this may be far more literal, with objectives and missions based around making sacrifices to The Maw.
