If you are wondering if you need a Facebook account to use your Oculus / Meta Quest 2, the answer is no. As of July 2022, Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly Facebook) announced that the Quest 2 would begin to move away from requiring a Facebook account. That said, Meta Platforms will begin moving away from Facebook accounts starting in August 2022.
When August rolls around, users can begin creating Meta accounts to use instead of Facebook accounts. These Meta accounts will serve as the sign-in account for players' Quest 2 and a place to mange games and various apps. But suppose users want more social features out of their Meta account. In that case, they will need to sign up for Meta Horizon.
What is Meta Horizon?
Meta Horizon is a new social account that will release alongside the regular Meta account. Players can use Meta Horizon to link friends from Facebook and Instagram to build a social presence on the Meta platform. If you want to sign up for a Meta Horizon account, you can do so after creating a Meta account. After creating a Meta account, you will be asked if you want to create a Meta Horizon account.
How to sign up for a Meta Account
If you want to sign up for a Meta Account, you must wait until the feature is released in August 2022. When Meta Accounts finally get released, the process for signing up will require either a Facebook or Instagram account. You will need one of the two social media accounts to sign up. After signing up, you can use your Meta account to sign in. If you want to turn off your social media accounts on your Meta account, you need to visit the Accounts center.
