Wartales – Should I play Adaptive or Region Locked mode?

Static, or dynamic?

Wartales is a classic turn-based tactical RPG that sees you leveling up your band of companions across many hours of gameplay. But I think you have to make some of the most important decisions before you even begin. Wartales offers you several different play styles, which significantly impact how your campaign will unfold. So you may be asking yourself, should I play adaptive or region-locked mode in Wartales?

The answer to which Wartales mode is best doesn’t have a right or wrong answer, as it is purely dependent on the advancement style you prefer when playing RPGs. But it is vital to get it right from the beginning, as this is the one setting you cannot alter after the game begins (you can alter difficulty as you go). However, it is also worth noting you can start and play several campaigns at once on different saves.

Wartales Adaptive Mode explained

Also described in gaming as dynamic game difficulty, Adaptive Mode should be your choice if you always want battles to be challenging. Numbers and levels of mobs will be closely matched to your current warband. It also means that you can explore the entire game world in a much more sandbox-style, as the borders are only relevant for region-locked mode. However, you’ll probably still want to broadly explore region-by-region to complete scenario quests and save on large travel bills (regarding food and wages).

How Region-locked Mode works

If you choose Region-Locked mode in Wartales, the mobs you find on the map will always maintain the same level. This means that as you gain experience, you can return to a battle you previously avoided, knowing it will now be more manageable to overcome. Areas have a static difficulty level, meaning that as you complete one region’s scenario quest, you should be roughly ready to move into a neighboring region. I chose and preferred this mode and have put together a region level guide if you want to give this Exploration mode a go.
