XDefiant's servers went up all of (checks watch) 35 minutes ago, and it appears as though there are a lot of server outages, error codes, and general weirdness preventing players from actually diving into a match of the free-to-play first-person shooter.
Players are reporting being stuck in empty lobbies waiting for them to fill up over on X (formerly known as Twitter).
Other players are reporting that they're unable to find a game at all, but the store appears to be working fine.
Unfortunately, it doesn't get much better over on the subreddit. An 'It's LIVE' thread has been taken over by players reporting that they were able to play a game or two as soon as the servers launched and have had no luck since. Others have reported errors with Ubisoft Connect being stuck on initializing, or being hit with a UNIFORM-01 error.
This is somewhat to be expected with online games. With an influx of players trying to login to check out the Call of Duty competitor, it's likely that the servers have been overwhelmed with traffic and things will return to normal in the next hour or two. At the time of writing, XDefiant's status page states that the servers for all platforms are online and operating normally. However, the general feedback on social media seems to suggest otherwise.
Some potential fixes
The good news is that some players are reporting some fixes. Over on the subreddit, players are suggesting that you restart Ubisoft Connect, or your PC entirely to get past the launcher failing to initialize properly.
Others are simply suggesting you sit out the turbulence and return to the game in an hour or two once the servers have handled the spike in traffic.
Regardless, it's not exactly an ideal start for Ubisoft's big FPS title. In a genre filled with juggernauts like Call of Duty, Fortnite and Apex Legends, games need to launch seamlessly to prevent players from immediately bouncing off to their old familiar. Here's hoping things clear up soon for XDefiant.
