Understand Super Fantasy Kingdom Gameplay

Although not as complex as strategies in the 4X genre, Super Fantasy Kingdom still features a fairly detailed gameplay system that you’ll need to master before even thinking about deeper strategies. The very first piece of advice we have for you is to gain a solid grasp of how the game’s many mechanics work.

Make sure to carefully read and listen to the tutorial during your first run, as it’ll help you understand what’s happening and what you’re doing. The core three elements of SFK's gameplay loop are the economy, exploration, and combat. Of course, all three of these are intrinsically connected and depend on each other.

Super Fantasy Kingdom Economy Guide

At its core, Super Fantasy Kingdom is a city builder, meaning you'll need to collect various resources to build new buildings, expand your kingdom, research upgrades, and purchase units for your army to defend the city. At the start, resource collection is incredibly slow; that's by design, so don't be bothered by the fact. However, there are a few ways to optimize resource gathering and early-game progression.

Best Early-Game Build Order - How to Get Resources Fast

First, place your basic resource-gathering buildings strategically, close to the resources they’ll be collecting. For example, build a Gold Mine near gold deposits or a Quarry near rocks. This shortens the path between the building and the resource nodes, reducing the time workers spend collecting and storing materials, and ultimately increasing your daily resource yield.

Second, prioritize building Houses, as each new one will grant you an extra worker. In the early game, workers are a scarce commodity, few and far between, and you’ll often find yourself juggling them between buildings to collect the resources you need. Keep in mind, though, that each new House will cost double the wood of the previous one.

When it comes to priorities, build the Sawmill as soon as you can. This building process raw wood into planks, which you'll use for all sorts of upgrades and constructions. Of course, first finish the basic resource gathering buildings for gold, wood, and stone.

One final tip for early-game resource optimization is to switch your workers’ jobs only at night, unless it’s absolutely necessary to do so immediately. This is because workers lose valuable gathering time while physically moving between their old and new workplaces. If you make the switch at night, they’ll head straight to their new job in the morning instead of wasting time changing roles.

Your kingdom has fallen into chaos and disarray, lying in ruins with its people abandoned. As their king, you must rebuild the realm and restore peace and prosperity to these lands. To do that, you’ll need an army capable of fighting off hordes of monsters and wrongdoers. Having a solid early-game composition will serve you well in the long run, as surviving those first ten days or so will be a real struggle.

When offered a first unit to pick, I strongly advise picking the Cyclops. It goes perfectly paired with Rickard, your starting hero. Cyclops is a long-range damage dealer, whose ranged attack deals massive damage before enemies are even able to reach him. He (or she?) will safely deal damage from behind, while Rickard will tank all the damage protecting him.

But that’s not even the best part. His active ability is a long-range stun that affects enemies within a 50-meter radius for almost four seconds! It’s an incredibly powerful skill that will carry you safely through the first few days. Furthermore, it pairs perfectly with the Eagle Eye relic, which you can obtain fairly early in the game. It grants +30% Damage against Stunned units, and I don’t even need to explain how well that synergizes with the Cyclops’s active stun ability.

Super Fantasy Kingdom Exploration Tips

Building branching roads to reconnect forgotten parts of your kingdom is one of the key gameplay mechanics in Super Fantasy Kingdom. As you acquire more glory, you will be able to spend that glory on new pathways, opening up new characters, quests, NPCs, locations, and so on. Exploration is key to your success, as the things you find in the world will help you progress your kingdom, unlock new powerful abilities, and set yourself up for further runs.

Thus, we strongly recommend unlocking new paths as soon as you have enough resources. Once you open up a new zone and clear the Fog of War, make sure to carefully inspect everything that’s been revealed. There are all sorts of useful things to find! Sometimes, due to the game’s pixel-art style, it can be difficult to distinguish interactive parts of the map. Press ALT frequently to highlight all points of interest on the map.

Events, buildings, and NPCs on the map are not passive. Make sure to check on them each day to see if anything new has appeared or changed. Also, don’t be afraid to spend your shards to “fix” corruption shards. It might feel like you’re paying for nothing, but it’ll help tremendously in your future runs. Remember, this game isn’t designed to be beaten in a single attempt.

Many NPCs and unique characters will appear randomly, offering lucrative rewards, including units, relics, and other helpful items. However, when they present you with an offer, it might be a one-time thing, so make sure you have enough resources before interacting with NPCs, or you’ll miss the opportunity to buy something potentially valuable.

Super Fantasy Kingdom Pro Tips

Now that you know the basics, here are a few more advanced tips in our Super Fantasy Kingdom guide. Make sure to repair the Cathedral as early as possible. It costs only three Boards to do it, but it will provide you with a host of useful upgrades and passive income options.

Don’t be afraid to spend resources on fighting the mini-bosses you unlock on the world map. They might seem tough and intimidating, but the rewards are well worth the risk. Even if you fail, you can always try again later. Just make sure to plan your challenges strategically, avoid fighting them when the main boss is about to appear, and instead tackle them during the quieter nights.

Siege Weapons and Fortifications are phenomenal in this game. They serve as your best line of defense, since they don’t require food to heal and can protect other units, specifically those with the Tower trait, meaning they can enter inside. Start building these as soon as possible.

Oftentimes, a resource bottleneck isn’t caused by a lack of workers but rather by a shortage of carriers to transport goods from production facilities to the castle. Depending on the situation, it might be wise to assign some of your workers to this role, as idle workers will act as mules and carry resources to the castle. This will make your production much more efficient, especially if you need to focus on specific resources. The bottom line is this: don’t be afraid to use your workers strategically; not every building needs to be operational 24/7.

So there you have it, our Super Fantasy Kingdom Beginner’s Guide has equipped you with all the essential knowledge you need to start rebuilding your kingdom. If you are interested in similar games, you might also like Farthest Frontier.
