Bite-Sized Mode is essentially a compressed version of the Normal Mode, with half the map length and fewer towns, while keeping the same late-game challenges and rewards structure. Instead of traveling the full 80km journey to reach Outlaw’s Town, you only need to travel 40km total.

How to Play Bite-Sized Game Mode

To play Bite-Sized Mode, head to the Game Mode Selector in the Dead Rails main menu. From there, choose “Bite-Sized Mode” to start a shorter journey through the wastelands. The gameplay functions are almost identical to the standard mode, but you should follow these tips:

  1. Plan Early: Since the distance between points is shorter, resources and encounters appear more quickly. You’ll need to manage your time carefully.
  2. Prioritize POIs: Because towns and supplies are less frequent, every POI matters more than usual. Visit them whenever possible to increase your loot.
  3. Prepare for Early Difficulty Increase: Enemies spawn at the same rates but with reduced intervals between them, so you will have to prepare for fights much sooner.

Completing a Bite-Sized run typically takes 15-25 minutes, depending on how quickly you push forward and how many detours you make.

All POI Locations in Dead Rails Bite-Sized Game Mode

All Points of Interest (POIs) from the standard mode appear in Bite-Sized Mode but are spaced closer together. Each biome will have two towns, and only one random POI can appear per playthrough. Below we've listed the info:

POIApprox. Distance (km)
Abandoned Train Yard5km
Desert Outpost10km
Rail Bridge15km
Broken Town Ruins20km
Outlaw’s Camp30km

Since POI and town appearances can vary slightly between runs, you should keep an eye out for landmarks that show approaching loot areas or enemy clusters.
